We arrived in Polperro after a gruelling slog down by car from London. We found Sunbeams and pulled the car over the little bridge and onto the drive (Tip: Reverse in as the bridge is tight and it's easier to leave the property facing forwards).
We opened the door on to a charming little cottage. A very nice comfortable lounge area with a couple of armchairs and a sofabed which serves as the main sofa (less comfy IMO). There's a large TV with excellent choices (Netflix included), although the internet connection is a bit hit and miss. There's a lovely window seat here too.
The dining room was a little sparse. A simple table and chairs is about it, but it served a purpose and again had the lovely window seats.
The kitchen was excellently equipped. We bought a fair amount of kitchen stuff with us as previous experiences have told us too. At Sunbeams however, we didn't need any of the kit we bought. There was even tea/coffee/sugar supplied as well as a very inviting bottle of red left on the side for us! There's a fully functioning dishwasher and washing machine plus fridge/freezer (we found the freezer didn't work too well other than the bottom tray).
There's a small outside area to the rear of the property but it wasn't in use due to being redeveloped by the owners.
Upstairs, the bedrooms were both a lovely size. Large beds and very comfortable too (medium/hard mattresses). Plenty of storage space, chests, wardrobes, side tables etc. Tastefully decorated too.
The bathroom was very nice too. A large bath with overhead 'rain' shower and a separate hand held shower head. Being at the rear of the property there's a sloping roof. If you're of a certain height (I'm 6'1"), then be prepared to do a fair amount of ducking and diving. Plenty of towels with extra one's in the laundry cupboard too.
Outside space is (at present), located at the front of property. There is a small grass area with a couple of chairs and a table. The property is split from the road by the river Pol which runs the length of the village in to the harbour. It's actually quite noisy at times (like when it's been raining). The single glazing on the cottage can give you a quiet 'white noise' type of sound when inside and it's quiet. If you're used to quiet living then it may be noticeable to you.
Overall I'd rate the property 7.5/10. It was very comfortable and light/airy and superbly equipped. On the downside, it looked a tad 'tired' in places and the kitchen did serve a couple of niggles (the oven wasn't attached to the units so tipped forward when you opened the door. Also the dishwasher was badly fitted so rubbed when open/shut). Minor stuff so can't really complain.
Polperro itself is lovely. The cottage is a 3-4 minute walk in to the village. There's plenty of pubs (personal faves are the Blue Peter. Order the Fish Platter. So good. Also the Three Pilchards was fantastic on the roof terrace in the sun. The Cod & Chips was lovely with a pint of the local stuff!). There's a post office and a convenience store for bits and pieces.
The harbour itself is lovely too. The beach is tidal but a nice place to explore at low tide. Dare you enter the Smugglers Cave?! There are also coastal paths east and west which are well worth hiking.
Everywhere is dog friendly too. Shops, pubs, beaches... Brilliant.
Polperro is a lovely place and somewhere I'd definitely come back too, but perhaps just to visit for a day rather than stay for any long period. Enjoy!
We stayed here for a week having previously stayed at a couple of different cottages in Polperro over the last 20 years. The cottage was clean and we'll furnished. When we arrived one of the beds that should have been made up as two singles was a double, but within 5 minutes of ringing the manager she was there changing it. The heating was off when we arrived so the house was a very chilly 5 degrees, but having turned it on the house was bearable within a few hours, and toasty by morning.
All the kitchen appliances worked well and the kitchen was fully stocked with utensils etc.
I would recommend taking slippers as the kitchen floor is very cold.
The shower is very powerful.
