Was disappointed with the stay. We paid £135 upfront for a double room with breakfast and do not think the room was worth that. Have paid a lot less in other hotels that were of a much better standard. The room was extremely tired, the tiny shower room was not inviting at all. The mattress is in desperate need of an upgrade. We had to put the radiator on on arrival as it was very cold in the room. The corridors were tired also with random furniture in them.

Plus points were the reception, breakfast room and bar area. Breakfast was self service buffet which was ok. Had a lovely view out of the window. Staff at breakfast were very friendly and helpful.

Don’t think we would stay there again.

Dear Bexyy1,

Thank you for sharing your recent experience of the Queens Hotel. We were pleased to read you liked the public areas and that our staff were accommodating, however we are very sorry to hear there were some issues with your room.

Please rest assured we have addressed this with the team to ensure we improve, but it's also worth noting that this is a traditional Victorian hotel and we feel that the 'random furniture' is an essential piece of our history.

We hope that you will consider giving the hotel another try in the future.

Best wishes,

The Queens Hotel Penzance

We made a last minute booking to stay here because it would take our two Labradors. The staff were very friendly, especially Gemma who took our booking and greeted us upon our arrival. We were able to check in early which suited us after a 6 hour drive, and then took the dogs for a walk along the seafront. Number 25 on the first floor was a very large, high ceilinged room with a four poster bed and armchairs in the bay window overlooking the sea. The room was very spacious and the bathroom more modern than the rest of the accommodation which was a bit dated but the size and comfort f the room far outweighed this.

We were also able to leave the dogs in the room whilst we had dinner at a local restaurant although they are allowed in the conservatory at the front, should we have wanted to. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty and this hotel was a great value find.

Room tip: room 25 was the first floor with a large bay window which was wonderful for the view.

Although it could benefit from some updating, this is a great hotel with the ambience that hotels built at the time [1862]now have.
Breakfast is pretty substantial and the location on the front promenade is fantastic, with beautiful views from all the dining / breakfast room and front facing bedrooms.
Recommend it for those who want more than the very upmarket blandness of most hotels.
The staff are friendly and polite and rooms spotless and well cleaned.

I spent a Saturday night at the Queens Hotel in Penzance, great value for the promenade location if you have a non sea-view room. I agree with a fellow reviewer's comment of "genteel shabbiness" - this is not an insult, it was a throwback to holidays in my youth, the rooms and hotel in general were clean and tidy. Just don't expect LED dimmers, USB chargers etc.!

Staff were friendly and efficient (very - having arrived from the overnight train, I was able to leave my backpack in the luggage room; upon my check-in, it has been taken to my room).

Breakfast was fine, with sea views.

Summary - I can't see how this could be beaten for value, given the location and service.

Room tip: No need to pay a premium for a sea view - just enjoy breakfast or step outside!

We had a three night stay at this lovely Victorian hotel. The staff were so friendly and our room very clean and comfortable. Breakfast is served in a beautiful dining room overlooking the sea,and the food was very good with a great choice too. You could see it was well used by local people too, very welcoming.
