When we arrived a member of staff came on to the coach to greet us,they were quick and efficient organising the rooms. Our room was fine it was clean and bright and the bathroom was okay, the only thing I didn't like was that I could hear the people in the next room using the toilet even when our bathroom door was closed. The food was wonderful and the staff in the dining room fantastic, the gentleman who served us was so friendly. The entertainment left a lot to be desired, but we had plenty of company so it didn't really matter. As for the 2 for 1 bar....the beer was crap,it tasted different after 6pm when the offer finished.I would use this hotel again, but not in February as it was so windy in Newquay.

Room Tip: Don't go in February...the wind is bitter cold.

34 of us arrived at this hotel on a majestic group booking, There was no meet & greet on arrival the bar was closed and hardly any staff on site, the room my wife and I were given was very good, a bit dated but nice & clean. Two single beds pushed together to make it look like a large double. When returning down stairs the bar was still closed, managed to persuade one member of staff to open it for us, which he did but made it very obvious he did not want to be there. At 5pm a really nice lady by the name of jenny who is the barmaid for the evenings made us feel most welcome if it had not been for her bubbly personality & kindness we would have had a very dull , she is the life & soul of this hotel. The food was good but choices limited on main course, they advertise a gym that was never open a pool table that did not operate & the pool was very very small. As the weekend continued the bar was running out of beer, never had guiness on, pump been broken for 5 days apparantly This beer issue was most annoying as I phoned the hotel two days before our arrival to tell them most of our party prefer ale to lager, to be told that is ok we have three types of draught beer . In actual fact they only had half a keg of Cornish ale and tetleys unfortunately. All in all we will not be returning to this hotel & will be advising majestic tours to use another establishment for a Newquay holiday.

This is a good, very clean basic hotel providing excellent breakfasts and an extremely good value dinner. The bedrooms are bright and cheery, the only criticism is the rather small television. Improvements could be the provision of a proper shower over the bath and a safe for valuables. The staff are delightful at Reception, in the Dining Room and Jen in the Bar.

This ‘hotel’ is awful! Firstly, the customer service is horrendous. Upon arrival, no one was available to check us in so we were left waiting for 10 minutes for a girl who was on the phone in one of the back rooms. When she finally got off the phone she was not apologetic or welcoming at all. We were greeted with huffing and puffing and no eye contact whatsoever. The member of staff obviously had a limited vocabulary as she hardly said a word to us, just simply put a key on the side and a form to fill out. We filled out the form and asked where the room was, again this girl clearly had no enthusiasm for her job at all and said that our room was down the corridor. This corridor was actually upstairs. When we got upstairs we realised how bad this place was going to be. It’s dated and gives the impression of a dirty motel. The rooms are horrible! Everything is old. The windows didn’t fit in our room as they’re so old and when we did open them our room was filled with a foul smell of waste because there was a waste pipe right outside the window which not only stank but also was extremely loud every time someone flushed their toilet. The beds are questionable and the bathrooms give off an unhygienic feel to them. Towels are threading and don’t smell nice. Overall, we could not wait to get out of this hotel and we were pleasantly surprised that when we checked out, again there were no staff on the reception desk so we left the keys in the hole and left. The one thing that was good about this hotel is how quickly we were able to leave.

Sandy Lodge Hotel has provided the venue for the annual Cornish Language Weekend (highly recommended for anyone with even a slight interest!) for some years now. It's a no-frills place but the rooms are always very comfy and staff welcoming and helpful. A bit disappointing to have wi-fi only available downstairs but better than nothing. The food is always fantastic and delicious! Free parking on site and a very convenient location with a Tesco Express and the seafront just up the road, also only a short distance from the railway station and town centre. A good, value-for-money place to stay.
