A birthday surprise for my 14 year old son. I booked direct with the hotel for 1 night, DBB at a very good rate.
Location - on a quiet residential road on the outskirts of Newquay and away from the commercialisation. WOW views over tidal, sandy river estuary. Hotel is dog friendly and there is a path direct to the beach.
Hotel - Entrance and public rooms are excellent; large and spacious with interesting art deco, panoramic windows throughout. Wide wooden staircase with stained glass windows. Good and definitely not a chain hotel.
Facilities - pool was good size with a deep end and Jacuzzi; popular but a bit chilly for most of us. Bowling alley seemed expensive and dark, the weather was so nice it was empty but probably good for large parties.
Restaurant - Dined as part of the deal. Choice from 3 of each course, nicely presented with adequate portions. Big thumbs up to the staff. The young lady and long dark haired man were genuinely hospitable and professional, they made my son feel special.
Room - Stayed in 221, twin room right at the end of hotel. Our confirmation email said balcony, but we had a window view of the back of restaurant instead. Room was warm, clean and good comfy beds but TLC and maintenance is needed.
Next time we would bring the dog and ensure a balcony.More
