Couldn't fault this place. Stumbled across it by chance. Bar staff so friendly and helpful. Very impressed that the barman doubted the coke was diet as requested so replaced without question knowing my daughter was T1 Diabetic. So friendly. Clean and bright establishment, beautiful views. Carvery was absolutely perfect. We were only in Newquay for the weekend but so pleased we found this place and will be returning for sure.

.... for the view. We use to visit the Fort every time we visited Newquay (for about 30 years) not been for a few years. Decided to call in this year and nearly died at the price of 2 drinks (pt larger and pt rattler) £ 9.90!!!
I work in a bar and those prices are a great mark up in my opinion!!!

We went specifically as it was recommended by friends. It was the Boardmasters weekend, so everywhere was busy, but we seemed to time it right about 4pm, lots of seats to sit down. My children's food was wrong, with food put on which wasn't asked for. Mine was cold and the drinks were warm! Wasn't impressed at all and won't be returning back. Better places to eat in Newquay!

We visited the Fort a few days ago, as we always do when we are in Newquay. Although we live some four hundred miles away, we are in Newquay at least six to eight times a year (family and business commitments) and visit the Fort at least twice every time. Our latest visit was an absolute waste of time. Firstly, there were no draught soft drinks at all, just miles and miles of cable hanging all over the bar as a team of workmen installed new drinks dispensers. There was no coke, no lemonade, no fizzy orange.....nothing at all for any unfortunate who happened to be driving, like me. Lacking any other choice, I decided to have an alcohol -free lager ( half the amount of a draught cola for twice the price!!) which wasn't even served chilled. Having eaten many times at the Fort we decided to have lunch, and looked at the menu. Oh, dear!! The kindest thing I can find to say is that the menu was dull and horrendously overpriced. There were no jacket potatoes - surely a lunchtime staple everywhere? - and the choice of sandwiches was decidedly average. Considering the prices they were charging, one would expect the sandwiches to contain some pretty special fillings, but they were bog-standard fare.....prawns, ham, cheese etc.. The specials board wasn't particularly special either, offering some kind of pie, lamb chops and one other dish, which obviously made such an impression that I can't for the life of me remember what it was!! Luckily, we know Newquay really well, and I had a brainwave. Down a little side street off the town centre there is a superb pasty shop, next door to a little tiny sandwich shop. The sandwich shop does the most stupendous jacket potato with a fresh crab filling, and the most delicious fresh crunchy salad in the world. We finished our unchilled drinks, and made our way there. One pasty and one crab-filled jacket potato purchased, we made our way down to the little park opposite Walkabout, and ate our lunch whilst sitting on a park bench. Luckily it was a decent, if somewhat windy day, and ideal for eating al fresco......even if we did have to be on our guard against the scavenging seagulls. The pasty and potato cost us less than a quarter of what we would have spent in the Fort, if there had been anything there worth buying. I'm not sure what they are trying to do to the place, but it certainly isn't working. They seem to have ruined it, turning it from a homely place serving decent reasonably-priced meals and drinks into some horrible, garish plastic-coated "theme pub". We will most certainly not be returning there again. There are so many good places in and around Newquay to eat and drink, and we shall be trying some of those in future.

Our second visit following one three years ago, and just as good. We had a lovely table inside with good views over the beach, the food was good pub fare with local ale and wine to wash it down. Even the dog felt at home.
