Booked the hotel for 3 nights through Secret Escapes to include breakfast and dinner for the duration. The confirmation email from Secret Escapes was exactly what we booked and paid for. However, the confirmation from the hotel did not tie up with our booking , as it should a lesser amount paid and only one breakfast and dinner. I phoned and queried this and was told to ignore the email and that everything was in order.
A few days before our arrival I received a pre arrival curtesy call to which I took the opportunity to clarify my booking details. I was told in no uncertain terms thar my booking only included one breakfast and dinner, so in order to clarify this again my wife called Secret Escapes and they confirmed to us the booking and they would follow up with the hotel on our behalf. I spoke to the operations manager and related this information to her but she was still insisting that we were wrong.
After a couple of days the operations manager called to confirm that we had booked what we had been informing her, but, although polite, without so much as an apology.
We arrived there last Thursday and had to reconfirm our hydrotherapy and mud experience which was included in our package, as again they failed to take note when I first booked them.
On Thursday night we visit the Brassiere on the Bay Restaurant for our first evening meal. My wife had the belly pork and I had the seafood linguine as a main course . My wife had the goat’s cheese for starters and I had the smoked salmon.Well I was up all night throwing up and with chronic diarrhoea, to the extent I did not eat anything at all the following day on the Friday
I was still very much in agony on Saturday and we decided to cut our break short and leave.
On asking for our bill to cover our drinks, one of the mud experience was charged to us,although it was included in the package. We queried this and our bill was adjusted, they just cannot get anything right.
Sorry, but this place needs to sort out its finance department and a little customer understanding which is completely lacking.

.........but this place was very close to earning that. Fantastic Staff, Fantastic rooms. Spa very nice even for the basic Hotel 'non spa' guests. We came down to see attend the University open day ,so it was a whistle stop tour - 9hr drive to and 9 hr drive home. I would loved to have stayed longer but we were short on time

I thought the food was a little pricey, but no more than would be expected.

I thought the rooms were excellent value for the price . Quite possibly in the top 2 hotels I've been in worldwide.

Only downside (and only reason for not 5*) was the plumbing/drain malfunction in the 'wet room' which caused a flood. A quick 'empty' of hair from the shower drain solved the problem. I'm not squeamish, but other people might find that unacceptable. Don't know whether that was a one off or a symptom of a wider lack of maintenance.
