“Great basic accommodation in good location with indoor pool”
Reviewed 7 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

This is our second stay at Milton Brook, but this time in a different apartment. The location, in beautiful countryside but close to Chester, is great. The hosts checked on us early on and were very helpful in the run up to the trip.
Overall, the accommodation was a good size for a holiday let but a little grubby and the sofas very tired with only a few springs left. The pool area was also a little tired with foam furniture with its innards hanging damply out and a bit dirty around the edges. Our children and all the others staying absolutely loved this area though and it is great to have an area to sit by the lovely warm pool and have pool toys such as the volley ball net to share with other holiday makers. Having the pool in this price range is also fantastic for early mornings and late afternoon with energetic children like ours.
The slight grubbiness and tired furniture would be so easy to rectify and I hope that the cottages enjoy continued success so that these small factors can be rectified.

Just right for a short break.
Play room with pool table and large swimming pool.
Quiet location just off the main road.

“Very disappointing holiday cottage and not child friendly as described”

We were very surprised by the substandard quality of the holiday cottage, whose problems included:
- WiFi which didn't work (the router was in an outbuilding which was too far away for any device to connect to unless you stood in the driveway, but never worked in the cottage itself)
- Absolutely filthy lounge carpet covered in stains - you would not want your children playing on the floor!
- No soap was provided at any sink
- Some recently fitted French doors in the lounge had exposed expanding foam on the inside sills and were missing trim (not child friendly)
- The downstairs bathroom obviously either got extremely damp or had the wrong paint applied since there were big patches on the walls where all the paint had peeled off and the bare plasterwork was exposed
- A couple of the upstairs radiators wouldn't turn off (one of the bedrooms was either too hot whilst the heating was on, or too cold if off)
- The outside of the cottage was run down: paint peeling off of the walls, shrubs overgrown, driveway full of weeds, litter in the flowers outside
- The kitchen had slug trails on worktops and walls: and my friend trod on one in the middle of the night in her bare feet (not a pleasurable experience)
- None of the bins provided worked: either lids fell off or pedals did not lift lids
- There were loads of bulbs that were out of action
- There were lots of flies in the kitchen
- The swimming pool building was in bad condition inside: mouldy changing rooms and the pool itself was very cold - too cold for children (again not child friendly)
- There was significant building works next to the pond opposite the cottage: the nice looking field on the website was completely dug up and inaccessible.
- There was no one around the cottage at the time of arrival and despite having requested stairgates, there was nothing available. When was asked for stair gates, we were provided with a travel gate which could only fit over the bedroom door, trapping the toddler in the room, rather than them being able to run around the upstairs as you would wish when on holiday! You also have to fit the stairgate yourself!

We do not feel that this holiday cottage was at adequate standard. Having stayed at numerous holiday cottages across the UK for similar size and cost, the quality of this cottage was an absolute joke. It would have been more of a holiday to have stayed at home!

“Very relaxed”

Had a brilliant stay at the Granary, very quiet and we were shattered after all that walking (Zoo one day and Chester the next). Lovely swim in the pool and a pleasant walk around the lakes. Excellent takeaway from the New Village Chinese Restaurant - tip - if you are ordering the set meal be aware there Is a lot of food - we ordered meal for two and even with three of us we had to throw some away as we were leaving the next day.

“Good location and comfortable house”

It was great to find a property that would take dogs and had access to a swimming pool - it was lovely and warm in the swimming pool room and the kids loved it there, it was a perfect size for toddlers and children and we had the pool to ourselves when we were there. The house was very comfortable and when we needed weighing scales they were soon found for us. The wifi was a bit intermittent and we could hear the neighbours at times but this didn't disturb us. The Stamford Bridge Inn within walking distance was great for food and beer. I would recommend this to other people, thought it was great value for money.
