Excellent hotel in a great location

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Oct 2019via mobile
We stayed for one night over Thanksgiving weekend. The staff were super friendly and the room was huge. Our Marriott status was immediately recognized and rewarded. The sliding bathroom door was quite heavy. The concierge lounge was really nice with a tasty breakfast and really nice attendant. We have an ailing parent in the near by Amica retirement home, so this will be our go to hotel for future visits.

The parking garage is not attached to the hotel. It is quite cleverly decorated with musical icons. We had a rate which included parking. Look for that as $20 per day is pricey for parking in Markham.

The hotel is about two minutes off the 407.

Beware of odd numbered rooms at this hotel because they overlook a massive building site which is noisy 24 hours a day. I crawled into bed at midnight and discovered there was a huge compressor running all through the early hours till 7 am, when the excavators start (see picture). Even ear plugs didn’t do the trick. Really, this is absolutely unforgivable.

I booked a King Suite to celebrate my partners birthday and i corresponded with Connie at the front desk prior to my stay about some hotel information. When i arrived i was pleasantly surprised as she informed me that she had upgraded us to the Presidential Suite! It was gorgeous and huge!! Perfect for the evening. Cutlery and all utensils I requested were there, along with two small bottles of Spumante Bambino, a very nice gesture. Connie also sent up a birthday desert with a note, which was so sweet. We then ordered in, off of their Room Service menu. The food was delivered in a timely matter and was hot. We had the pulled pork flatbread, lobster grilled cheese and poutine. The food was very good and flavorful. The shower, soaker tub, were great. The mattress was incredibly comfortable along with the linens. Unfortunately, my partner did get ill in the morning from something he ate, but I was ok. The service again was fantastic. Connie sent up some tea to settle his stomach and the chef called to speak to me. They did take off the room service charge from our final bill which was very professional and I appreciated it.
To sum it up, I loooooved the suite, the service from Connie at front desk was exceptional!!! Thank you! All the staff from the cleaning ladies I encountered on the 3rd floor, to the bell hop were great. I will definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for 5 star service and I will stay again when in the area.

The hotel was fantastic! great service, great location, comfortable and spacious rooms. Cute indoor pool and lovely gym.
The breakfast and room if you have Marriott status is extremely convenient. Loved my stay here! It is the kind of hotel that makes you want to stay an extra night!

I was lied to by front desk staff.

This hotel is a great choice if you are traveling for tourism and do not enjoy status at Marriott. If your transaction is simple: flat rate - one room - no additional expectations - you will do well (subject to rate). The rooms are well designed, updated, clean and the pool and hot tub are also impressive. The M Club is also nicer than most in Southern Ontario and might be worth the cost of an upgrade (say $30/night since it includes breakfast).

This hotel fails has a problem with accommodating business travelers and with fulfilling its obligations to those with Gold or higher status in the BonVoy program (I am Platinum Elite).

This is not excusable because earlier reviews of this hotel (Rp24hours and Gabriel, for example, below) show this is a trend.

I was responsible for a large group at this hotel and knew exactly who had status, who did not, who used Suite Night Upgrades, and who didn't. This resulted in an unplanned test of the hotel's ability to acknowledge status and process upgrades.

When the hotel failed to perform as required by the Bonvoy program they made a fatal mistake. They lied when challenged. The lies concerned availability (those without status were upgraded; they didn't know I knew). I did not correct the hotel once the lie was made. What is the point? Your lie showed you are willing to attempt to mislead to cover-up your mistakes. I don't trust you.

In addition, the hotel violated the Marriott Welcome Guarantee. They provided a whole mini-bottle of Perrier and called it a day.

The hotel also failed to follow some of the negotiated group rate which required correction at check-out. On its own this error might have been excusable.

It seems the manager / owner of this hotel is attempting to chase their cheapest way to barely comply with the BonVoy program. Marriott should consider whether it wishes to maintain its relationship with this hotel.

Room tip: M Club is on floor 4. There are not really rooms with a view. Most rooms should be adequate.
