Despite living in the Auckland region for 15 years, this was our first trip out to Coatsville and we now wonder why on earth we hadn't made the effort before. We went for Sunday brunch. The restaurant was full but we were allocated a nice table for two. Our order was quickly taken and our coffee arrived within minutes with our meal not far behind. The restaurant was full of families and children were very welcome. The waiting staff were attentive, friendly and efficient. The selection of meals was wide and there was something for everyone. Certainly a place we would not hesitate to recommend, whether you be young, old, or a family with young children. All are made very welcome.

This was an extremely pleasant surprise for our first visit.

Lovely warm room helped by fire, pleasant efficient wait staff. The the food .... excellent salt and pepper calamari cooked to perfection, best for a while. The Vietnamese fish cakes complimented by a wonderful salad with a suitable chilli tang along with the eye fillet medallions as our mains were a delight. To round it all off the sticky date pudding was the perfect end to a mid winters anniversary celebration. It was our first visit but certainly won't be our last!

Lovely place for coffee and muffin - friendly staff and really nice setting. Bit cold when we were there but can imagine the "porch" area would be fabulous on a warm day. Muffins were nice and fresh. Be careful not to leave any food unattended - the sparrows are real quick - will attach your food in an instant.

Having been and enjoyed two years ago - we booked for a belated Mother's Day lunch (after last years Father's Day booking was 'lost').
From the start it was disappointing. Really amateur service - a simple request for garlic bread (granted, not on the menu) could not be accommodated (garlic bread!).

Offerings average - two meals were good, one average, but the Thai Beef was pretty poor (coleslaw was old). Chips good - although chicken salt is really a takeaway shop standard.
We were asked how we were going - but there was no time given to answer (or order a second wine for that matter!).

Had to go to the counter to request coffees, (usually four people flailing around for attention is a clue), although the coffee was Allpress and excellent.

We were told by the barista that dessert was not served at lunch - so the tiramisu served to tables either side of us was a little confusing!

Tried to like it, tried to give them more money - but average food and poor service made for a disappointing experience - if Black Cottage are trading on their location to ensure future business - they are ripe for competition.
Personally we won't be making a return trip here.

Wow what a great restaurant. Classic dishes with modern twists that were a delight to both the eye and taste buds. Good portions, decent wine list and great service. Save room for dessert they are to die for, great ideas that we hadn't come across before. Lots of spoon swapping on our table!
