It was a really amazing stay. After 24 hours of flying I ended up at Auckland and from there directly to Devonport, imagine how much I needed a sleep. I was reading a booklet called The Organic Explorer, written from a friend of mine and in it's pages I met a place (from another era) close to Auckland which would help me gather my strengths and keep up with my journey. Without any second thoughts, I took a bus form the airport and the ferry to Devonport where in my surprise I met Judy, a really friendly person and a very kind one, the owner and the soul of the guesthouse. I was quite dazzled from the very nice restoration of the Victorian villa and also so tired, I enjoyed a bit of the complementary wine and sinked into the very soft bed with the company of the sounds of the birds and some guitar music from the park. The next day started with the best way possible, having my private breakfast (loved those blueberries) at the terrace in the back yard watching the garden and feeling the sun waking me up slowly slowly... Every detail was very taken a very good care of, even the guide book was more than enough informative and very well written.
I felt like being at home so instead of staying there for a day, I actually lost the sense of time and stayed for 4... And before leaving New Zealand I stayed 3 more! I actually felt very welcoming by Judy and after all my experiences in NZ (even if they weren't all great) I wanted to leave with the great feeling and energy I got from that place.
Judy excuse me for spilling a bit of oil at the mattress and remember my advice for your cold feet! Your Greek Friend! (The actual visiting date was January 2015)

Room Tip: Every room has it's own unique taste... You just have to be there and feel it!

We got bumped from the Esplanade in Devonport due to a "clerical miscommunication" which translated to 'wedding' lol even though we had booked 3 months earlier.....they diverted us to Judy at the Peace and Plenty but on arrival she had no idea we were coming.....out of towners on a long weekend & an All Blacks test on....get the picture? We were spewing. Anyway Judy put her 'cape' on and saved the day. Luckily the Garden Room was available and it was great! Host was excellent, breakfast was superb and location fantastic. It wasnt what we would normally go for and Its not cheap but we enjoyed it. Thanx Judy.

Room Tip: Garden Roon for sure.

Beautiful house in a nice and wonderful area and so close to Auckland CBD by ferry if that is your wish. If Auckland CBD is not for you then you have so many choices locally. Peace and Plenty offer a beautiful room with a wonderful choice of breakfast delivered to you by a friendly and warm host.

I booked this with family for my mother who was visiting from overseas. The place is beautiful and well decorated with vintage furniture and free hats on arrival. The whole idea seemed fabulous and unique but we were slightly disappointed with the attitude, service and overall experience. We did arrive a little late (due to high traffic on the road into Devonport that I had no idea about and I did call to warn them I was running late) and we had booked for a later time anyway so we were not holding up any other reservations. It was extremely busy on arrival, and I felt it was way too cramped to be pleasant. Unfortunately the chairs do not fit properly with the table sizes and therefore it makes sitting beneath the table a little awkward added to this that it was very busy with no space between guests to move so having to adjust your seat every time someone needed to walk past was a little frustrating. The staff seemed a little put out that we were late and made it known which made us slightly uncomfortable. We did not get served for some time... The tea orders were not taken as a group but each one individually which meant a long time to wait between each order. The teas on offer are fabulous and each tea cup and tea pot is rather unique. Once the food arrived, I must say it looked delicious and was very nicely presented and some items were absolutely a highlight. All food arrives at once and is set out on platters according to the number of people. But we were let down by the fact that we did have one person that does not eat sweets and one diabetic on our table and we found that there were not enough savouries on offer even after discussing this beforehand. The champagne on offer was nice but it is certainly not of a high brand name. There is no option of swapping anything out or having more of anything which is a bit of a disappointment, particularly as we had so much left over. A lot of things just went to waste, there were a few items that they agreed we could take home with us BUT essentially there was still a lot of wastage from our table. The biggest shock was on paying as we had booked for 7 but my cousins elderly mother-in-law was sick on the day and could not make it, so ended up only being 6 guests, we still had to pay for 7 guests. I understand that perhaps the food had been made to order as per the amount of guests on hand but I feel quite strongly that at least we should have been able to take her entire portion home with us and at the very least should have been offered the extra glass of champagne.
At the end of the day, we had a very fun afternoon out and it was special to spend time with the family, and it was a unique experience for us all, but probably not one that we will repeat in a hurry! In this instance the cost was not warranted and the attitude was a bit of a let down. Unfortunately we also found a couple of dog hairs on our table!

Room Tip: Not applicable as we did not stay overnight...

My wife and I stayed here to recover from our long flight before continuing to Rotorua, this could not have turned out better and we were very happy with all aspects of our stay, it's a wonderful location within walking distance from shopping and restaurants. The breakfast was a special surprise, the food was of the highest quality and expertly prepared by our host.

Thanks for the hospitality and I will gladly recommend this B&B to all.
