Recently visited the Lion and Tusk Museum in Tauranga. It is a most impressive display of Rhodesiana Military Memorabilia with a couple of special displays highlighting Kiwis who served in the Rhodesian Army. The Museum is manned by knowledgeable volunteers who are available to answer any questions. A must visit for all residents and visitors to Tauranga. To get the most benefit spend a couple of hours enjoying the displays and browsing the extensive library.

A trip down memory lane and so worth a visit. We drove especially from Wellington to Tauranga to view this museum as we had heard rave reviews. Well done to all who have set this up and remembered brave men. It was well worth the visit and the information.

A must see for anyone with interest in relatively recent military history, the cold war as fought out by proxy in a part of Africa, a multi-faceted clash of cultures, the end of the British Empire, and part of the background to the economic and counter –democratic disaster that is modern day Zimbabwe. Courage, savagery, atrocities, the Battle of Britain spirit, the murderous hand of international geo politics, a small lost world the memory of which is about to vanish into the sands of time.
We are blessed to have this resource available in New Zealand. Comprehensive and accessible exhibits, videos and library. Close to the Classic Flyers Museum.

As a former Rhodie, I was amazed at the incredible collection of Rhodesian memorabilia. I doubt whether there is a collection like it anywhere else in the world. It tells the story of Rhodesia from settlement in the 19th century until the end of the dream in 1981. Even for non Rhodies, this is an important collection, that describes an important historical period of African History, of the dream that almost became reality, and still lives on with this collection. Please visit, you will be enlightened.
