This was our second visit to Le Sol. Ken and Carole were as lovely as ever.
The house has absolutely everything you could ever need for a holiday - that along with picturesque views, local boulangerie and restaurant, places of interest to visit nearby and further afield, thoughtful hosts....what more could you want?
We spent an enjoyable day at Jardins de Marqueyssac, the walk up to Belvedere being rewarded with a view of La Roque Gageac and the River Dordogne below. Included in the price was the via Ferrata which our teenage boys thought was great (not for the faint hearted by all accounts!)
The 'Go Ape' type course at Le Conquil was another good teenage pastime followed by walks in the woods together as a family. Lac Tamnies is also worth a mention as a good all round place to go, it has a giant inflatable in the water (think Total Wipeout). You can swim in the lake, sunbathe/play on the man made beach or under the trees. We didn't but I think there are walks around the lake too.
Le Sol is a truly wonderful place that we adore, sitting on the terrace at any time of the day is bliss.
Thank you Ken and Carole, we're looking forward to the next time.
We had a wonderful week at Le Sol! The gite has lots of character and is very spacious and comfortable. Location is great; we were able to explore lots of what the local area has to offer, including some lovely markets, canoeing along the Vezere River, prehistoric sites and local restaurants. There is certainly lots to explore in this beautiful area! Carole and Ken (the hosts) were fantastic - they were on hand to recommend places to visit, very friendly and helpful; nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a wonderful stay, we will definitely be back!!
We truly enjoyed our vacation at le sol. Two wonderful weeks with our three children. Lovely Ken and Carole thought of everything nesscery to make our stay as easy as possible: fully equipped kitchen, children toys, books, DVDs and much more. They even prepared picnic basket for our use. The house is well tasted decorated, very clean and organized.you can take morning stroll along the river, come back through the bolungery directly to the terrace that is perfect for morning breakfast. Planty of fine restaurant in the area, high cousin at reasonable prices. We specially enjoyed the evening food markets you can find at the area. Ask Carol if the pool is still available, but even if not, the house and surrounding fill many hours of joy.
I returned to Le Sol with three friends for a quiet week of rest and recuperation.
It didn't disappoint. The house is perfectly located for site-seeing and market-shopping and lovely restaurants are in easy reach by car. There's loads to do close by for children (which, on this occasion, we avoided!!).
The house itself is very clean and really well-equipped. It's like home from home.
We also made the most of the pool behind the house which was a great place to cool off after a hot day.
Carole and Ken are perfect hosts seeing to your needs (should you have any), but leaving you in peace to enjoy your holiday.
I would thoroughly recommend a visit.
So good in fact that this is our third visit. We agree with all the positive comments left by other guests. New for us this year was the excellent restaurant in the village which has reopened under new management- only 2 minutes walk away. The owners could not be more accommodating and the food is quite exceptional.
We also (on Carole and Ken's recommendation) had a fascinating visit to Lascaux 4 - in action since December 2016. Although busy, it is efficiently managed and offers 2 tours daily in English. We had a pleasant leisurely lunch in the restaurant prior to the tour. Essential to book tickets well in advance though.
The train into the "Grottes de Rouffignac" provides a novel way to visit a prehistoric site. No advance booking available here.
Also a walk to the 'Gisement de Ruth" (road behind the church) offers something completely different. The tour is conducted by the man whose grandfather found the caves and the sarcophagi in the hillside in 1912. To be able to hold flint tools honed and held by prehistoric man is quite an affecting experience.
So all in all, another wonderful holiday, with Carole an Ken, as ever, the perfect hosts - whatever your needs!
