We explored this area in portions rather than doing it all in one hectic day. We rented bicyles and went all the way to the Muro de las lagrimas the first day, passing giant tortoises on the way and really struggling with the heat and insects. One of the few tourist attractions focusing on the super interesting human history of the islands. The conditions these prisoners endured while building the wall for years was really horrendous.
The next days we visited el Estero and the various lakes on foot, having a wonderful time, crowned with the chance encounter with flamingos on the beach on the way back.

My husband and I were walking from the town to the end of wetlands. You can see different birds, lots of iguanas, beautiful beaches and giant turtles on the way. Just don't go by car and you will see them.

Date of experience: June 2016
