Just a three star, but only just!

Be warned there is a dress code...... for a buffet restaurant! (Fine dining, it's NOT!)

We travelled for over 13 hours to get to this resort for two weeks relaxing in the sun, sea and sand. I think everyone who has travelled long distance gets a bit frazzled by the time they arrive. Reception was great and we had help with our cases to our room on the second floor with a beach view (238). We quickly showered and changed into something more appropriate and headed for dinner, I put on a nice pair of evening sandals, some good shorts and a smart T-shirt and headed out to eat before the restaurant closed.
On arrival at the restaurant we gave our room number at the desk and were told to take a vacant table. Water was served to the table as I sat down and my wife headed for the buffet. Almost immediately after, the restaurant manageress appeared and told me that I was quote "inappropriately dressed" for the restaurant and that covered shoes should be worn and a shirt with a collar that is not a T-shirt. I made the point about only just arriving at the resort after a long journey and manageress repeated that I was inappropriately dressed. As tired as I was after such a long journey, I never raised my voice or got angry but I did offer to leave, twice. There was absolutely no understanding or acceptance of my fatigue and again the manageress repeated that I was inappropriately dressed.
The manageress left and my wife returned from the buffet with her food. I eventually got some food from the buffet which I ate quickly and left, feeling more than a little bit upset at a "dress code for a buffet restaurant" which was not exactly fine dining.
I'm not the kind of guy that let's things like this get to me but when I go away on holiday, I go for the sun, sea, sand with a relaxed attitude and good cold drinks included. But this soured our first evening at the Coyaba and set the tone for the rest of our holiday. For the next 14 days we only ever used that restaurant once, after I had bought some covered shoes. The vibe there felt bad to me there. One of the things I go on holiday to enjoy is two weeks of not having to wear shoes so I didn't take socks either!
The next morning we read the info pack which included the "Dress Code" but who reads anything when you are that tired from travelling?
Fortunately, there is no "Dress code" for breakfast, also a buffet I may add. But breakfast was a pretty good selection and I could find no fault with it. Almost all our dining from then on was at the Pool restaurant which was excellently served at the table by staff who had smiling faces and seemed eager to please.
The bars were staffed by the good and the miserable, (As you can see, I didn't take names). One guy in the main bar (I think he was a bar manager too!) didn't smile the whole two weeks we were there and didn't seem happy to serve either but a few of the other seemed happy in their work and served with a smile.
The Resort itself is on the public Grand Anse beach, which I would rate as one of the best in the Caribbean with soft white sand and lovely clear water. We never struggled to get sunbeds, which we were able to move from the Resort ground onto the beach as we wished. The Pool area is clean and tidy and also has plenty of sunbeds around it. For those with children I would warn you that at one point the pool is 9 feet deep, so keep an eye on your little ones in this area.
The rooms were great with British style three pin plugs, so no adaptors are needed. A great big extra king size bed, plenty of hanging space and drawer space and tea and coffee making facilities are provided too. The rooms were kept very clean and tidy, towels and bedding were changed regularly and we were very happy with the room service. Another great point for this Resort is that the tap water is filtered and drinkable. I think this is the first time I have ever encountered this in any hotel in the world, so it's a definite plus.
The grounds of the Resort were kept very tidy by the gardening team too but it seems that almost every day of our holiday someone was using a very noisy strimmer and/or leaf blower early in the morning, so don't get a hangover for goodness sake!

I am not a religious person at all but there seems to be a very religious vibe to this resort, which is ok as long as it doesn't encroach on my holiday...... it kinda pecked at the edges but it didn't spoil anything.
What did spoil things a little was the draconian attitude to smoking here. If your a smoker of vaper you can only smoke/vape in the area between quote "The christmas tree" and the beach and there are no seats or benches provided in any of the open spaces in this Resort to sit and rest on, so if you want to sit you have to use a sunbed which is very low down for just sitting on and not easy to arise or get up from.

To close, I wouldn't recommend the Coyaba Beach Resort. We have stayed in many hotels in the Caribbean and this just wasn't our cup of tea.
Date of stay: June 2024
Room Tip: The pin plugs here so no adapters needed. And the water is drinkable from the tap too.

We stayed at Coyaba Beach Resort for two nights, June 12-14, 2024. Our room was a Superior Room with Garden and Pool View – room #237. This room also offered a king bed with a partial beach/ocean view blocked by trees on the beach. We did not add on any meal or drink packages from the resort and chose to eat at local establishments off property (see separate reviews).

We arrived at the resort via a taxi arranged for us by the resort (you have to contact the resort and make this request before your day of arrival). The driver was waiting for us with our names on a Coyaba Beach tablet when we exited the airport. Check-in at the resort was quick and easy. Our bags were taken promptly to our room by Randy, who also gave us a tour of the resort and our room. Everything was great. The room temperature, bed, room and resort cleanliness, proximity to everything, etc. No complaints.

Grande Anse Beach is this resort’s biggest selling point. The beach is BEAUTIFUL! We could see why it is rated as one of the best in the Caribbean. The water is fairly calm, clear, and provides a great swimming area. The trees at the sand line provided a good amount of shade.

We walked all around the area and felt very safe. Walked out to Quarantine Park one morning before the sun was too high in the sky. On another day, we walked down to the Grande Anse Craft and Spice Market. It was very nice to see the area and get a feel for local life.

Thank you, Coyaba, for a great stay. We will definitely return and have already recommended you to others.

Room tip: You don't need an ocean view room. All the rooms face into the property and should have about the same view.

First time to Grenada with 2 of my best friends celebrating a special birthday. Didn’t know what to expect but wow, we had a great time. The staff at the hotel are all so friendly - big mention especially to George who greeted us so warmly every single day. The hotel is as others say and there are some refurbs taking place but we found our room to absolutely fine. Best air con we’ve ever experienced and this is a must in such a hot country. Food is great. Really liked the lunch menu and the fact you are served almost all the time except breakfast ( buffet style). Cocktails are gorgeous - recommend strawberry or lime daiquiri and mudslide! Thanks to Anthony and Keron for keeping our drinks topped up plus the singing bar man ( can’t recall his name ). We visited the rum factory - amazing especially the 75% rum we sampled plus the chocolate factory. Recommend an island tour so you see Grenada plus go snorkelling and see the underwater statues. Great week in the Caribbean sun making memories to last forever.

The beach was absolutely stunning and we used it each and every day of our stay, can understand exactly why it is classed as a world class beach albeit there are a few characters that frequent it!
Hotel itself and some rooms are tired and staff don’t seem to be very enthusiastic unfortunately but did improve as the week progressed and we certainly took a shine to some staff members
The pool area and restaurant wasn’t for us and more family orientated so we stayed on the beach
Supermarket and few eateries opposite if required
Good food but very ‘samey’ as AI can sometimes be. Make sure to ask for the lunchtime menu rather than just the buffet as not always offered. This offers pizza, nachos, salads if you don’t fancy a full meal as such
Unfortunately, we found Lystra front of house receptionist, to be very rude and unhelpful - certainly not a person to be used to deal with guests face to face!!

The beach front area is the best of Grand Anse! The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Food was delicious! Dinner time was a little late for my young family but the staff let us start dinner 30 min earlier. They have a water sport company next door that allows you to use the gear for one hour every day with no cost! Totally recommend!

It's so about the beach for us so this place was ideal. The sea every clear and we end saw turtles just metres off the coast. The staff are very polite and all have a great sense of humour.our room was as far away from the beach as you could get but this was a bonus as it was good to stroll through the gardens with its birds and lizards and the proximity to the shopping mall across the road. There was little to no noise from the new beach bar that was being constructed behind a boarding next to the dive center. Drinks choice was good and plentiful with cocktails and run punch made very well from scratch. the Room AC was adequate as we had very hot weather. We was AI so we tried both restaurants and have no grumbles, loved the Indian themed night. there was a mixed friendly families and couples crowd during our stay. No tucked away designated seated smoking area. Umbrella s bar next door was good for a change and entertainment If booking this hotel direct works out less expenditure than through the airline we will be back but for longer than 2 weeks.

Room tip: Keep all doors shut when A C is on or it leaks
