Lovely Hotel.
We enjoyed our 2 week stay at the Coyaba Beach Resort. The beach was glorious and easy to access from the hotel grounds.
Our rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels and little chocolates in the evening which was a lovely touch! The shower pressure was a little on the slower side but there were plenty of complimentary shampoo, conditioner and shower gels available. Great aircon system and ceiling fan. The bed was massive and had a very comfy mattress so I slept like a dream each night.
There is a spacious balcony with a table and chairs for any evening drinks you decide to take back to your room.
There is a big mosquito door which is very helpful if you want the door open but stop any bugs from coming into your room. The hotel does do a bug smoking once a week to keep the mosquitos at bay and the seems to work as I was not bit in the hotel for the whole 2 weeks (the only time I did was going into the rain forest or walking along the beach in the late evening so take bug spray).
The food at the Coyaba Beach Resort was good, not excellent though. There were options of a buffet or poolside menu but I found the food to be a little samey. It was nice food don't get me wrong- very fresh, but it would be nice to have things a little more simple and a little more different than the previous days. The cakes are excellent though and I helped myself to plenty!
There are rules at one of the restaurants which is a little annoying- (Women have to dress in longer items to cover up and men to wear shirts with a collar) - the reason for this being a little annoying is if it's very hot it is hard to sit in longer dresses and have your shirts buttoned up, but this wasn't a huge problem as the poolside restaurant is a more relaxed vibe so we didn't have to worry about getting overheated. There are also some local takeaways to try, some of them are on the beach and some a little walk out of the hotel in the local mall.
We didn't use the pool, as there was a whole ocean to explore. But, it looked nice and had a swim-up bar which was popular in the evenings.
There are 3 bars, one is poolside, one in the main 'chill out' area and one in the beach area. The Waiters are all excellent, very friendly and refill your drinks without the need to call them over. Cocktails are nice and fresh- VERY needed in the hot sun!
There are water refills given to you often at breakfast, lunch and dinner which is lovely, as again, you don't need to ask- they are already at the table ready to refill your glass.
Entertainment-wise, it's different every day. One night could be singers, one night dancing and one night a drum show. If you don't fancy the hotel's entertainment you can take a short walk down the beach to come across some local bars with music on the beach or check out the local events which are posted in reception and online.
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful, with lizards walking around, local birds singing their songs and the odd cat taking advantage of the shade. There are, on occasion some stray dogs that walk along the beach and might pop into the grounds to lie in the shade but they are harmless and just sleep.
It's nice to have an evening walk around the gardens after dinner are the paths are all lit up.
Sunbeds are scattered around the garden area and on some stages (which are covered with shade) as well as on the beach area (you can take a sunbed on the beach when you like as long as you don't drag it too far from the hotel). There are loads of sunbeds to pick from so don't worry about having to get up early to fight for a bed. you will find some people putting towels down at breakfast time but there are still more than enough for everyone.
The grounds have 2 security guards by the beach who are very friendly and help move sunbeds if you need help.
If you fancy going out of the hotel and exploring, there are local busses which look like small vans that fun every 15 mins, you will know they are the busses as they will stop and ask you if you need to have a lift anywhere (like St. Georges) and they charge very little to take you.
There is also a mall across from the hotel that has a supermarket but it is expensive. There are some shops inside as well and a bank if you need to get cash out.
The weather was perfect, nice and hot with light wind to cool you down in the shade. February is their 'dry season' so it only rained once for the 2 weeks which lasted 2 minutes and everything dried pretty much instantly. You can see the mountain area has a lot more rain but it goes by the time it reaches the beach area.
All in all, this hotel is very good and I'd come back. Everyone is very friendly, and helpful and makes your stay as comfortable as possible. If you need taxis booked the reception is very helpful. They don't have maps of Grenada though if you are a map person, so you will have to rely on asking the locals and Google Maps.
Thanks to everyone at the hotel for making our stay so memorable!
