Wonderfully peaceful location, the villa is very well equipped and comfortable with the added bonus of your own private pool and stunning views of the coast and surrounding countryside. The host Dimitri is very welcoming and available for any questions you might have. The villa is near all amenities, although a car is recommended for getting out and about. This was our second visit to Villa Papoura and hopefully won't be out last.
The villa is in a fantastic location, set on a hillside with olive groves all around. There are wonderful views of the sea, hillsides, and mountains in the distance. It is so calm and peaceful, yet there are beaches for swimming and snorkelling a short drive away. There are lots of local tavernas to try - the food is delicious - and supermarket and petrol station in the nearest town on the coast - again only a few minutes away by car. The villa is beautifully clean, well equipped and maintained, the pool perfect for a dip any time of the day or evening. We ate outside all the time, under the mulberry tree or poolside in the morning, on the balcony in the evening. Dimitri is very welcoming and very kind; his dogs are firm favourites with all of us. We would love to visit again - this was the best holiday we've had for ages.
Large villa set in its own, large grounds with stunning views of the sea to the north and the mountains to the south. Ideally located, beaches, shops and restaurants only 5 - 10 minute drive away, yet villa is far enough from the main strip to be extremely peaceful and private. Owner Dimitris and his two dogs live on-site in a small apartment behind the villa. He welcomed us with a glass of homemade raki (a Cretan tradition), and was on and to fix the occasional small issue we had with the heating, and cleaned the pool daily. The Villa is a really good size for a family, and is decorated in traditional Cretan style. Only reason we didn't give it 5 stars is there are one or two areas that could do with repairs, like the rope around the pool, air-con in the living room leaks - all minor issues that didn't really impact our stay there, and as mentioned Dimitris is on hand to repair what he can.
Lots to do locally; some really good restaurants (Nemo's is well worth finding!) and good beaches. Plenty of day-trips locally, boat rides and small museums ato name but a few.
On departure, Dimitris very kindly gave us parting gifts of olive oil from the garden and more homemade raki! Would definitely recommend.
Villa Papoura is a beautiful villa in an excellent position just a few minutes drive from the beaches, shops and restaurants of Gerani and Platanias. From the villa you have stunning views of the sea, mountains and surrounding olive groves. Dimitris, the owner is a really delightful, helpful and generous man who will make your stay as welcome and comfortable as you could possibly hope. The villa is ideally situated for exploring the whole of the western end of Crete.
