We had a lovely time however I was a little disappointed
The food was excellent, however the service not great and not really enough to do on the island.
I was disappointed how there was no one to meet me I had to go around airport trying to find them and then was left for 1 1/2 hrs after travelling for 24 hrs

Oblu Sangeli is the sort of place that is so amazing you want to keep it all to yourself, but after much deliberation I decided that would be slightly selfish so have finally written this review to let others know how amazing this place is. If you are planning to go to the Maldives and are considering Oblu, stop searching and book it, you will not regret it!

The whole stay, from the moment we were picked up from the airport to the moment we were dropped 10 days later, was just perfect. It was our first time in the Maldives and we were not disappointed. The resort is simply stunning in every way.

We stayed in a water villa overlooking the ocean, it was very large with a huge super comfy bed, great balcony space with steps down to the sea, walk in wardrobe and unbelievable bathroom overlooking the sea. It was cleaned twice a day and there were always clean beach towels available.

We spent a lot of our time by the beach in front of the main bar and there was always plenty of space. In fact, one of the things that surprised us was the fact that the resort was at full capacity yet it still felt like a really secluded island and like you had the whole place for yourself.

Snorkelling was great, we did this every single day, the resort provides all the equipment and the house reef was great, we never tired of seeing the amazing sea life. The included snorkelling guided trip around the outside of the island was absolutely great. The sunset fishing cruise was not our style, to be honest, we don’t like to see fishes dying for sport, we would have preferred a prosecco sunset cruise to be honest so that would be our one suggestion for future improvement.

We went on two further trips, arranged by the diving centre, turtle bay and manta ray, both were absolutely amazing, staff was very professional and we had a great time, definitely recommend these.

The all-inclusive plan was brilliant, we were never left wanting for anything. So many drinks to choose from, different cocktails every day, mini fridge in the room was always stocked, good selection of wines and the food was out of this world. We seriously did not expect it to be so good. At every meal the main challenge was to not eat so much that you couldn’t move the rest of the day! Absolutely loved every single meal during our stay, both at the main restaurant and also at the themed restaurants, which were both superb.

Finally, as other reviews have stated many times before, but it is so true, the staff are second to none and really are what makes Oblu so special. Everyone was super friendly and helpful and nothing was ever too much trouble. I’m not good with names and there are too many to mention, so we would just like to say thank you to everyone at Oblu Sangeli for making our stay so special. We can’t wait till next time!

We have been back now from Oblu Select at Sangeli now for a few months and I have been reflecting on our time there. We stayed 9 nights in the honeymoon suite at the end of the pier from April 5-14th. This was our honeymoon and I am glad we chose to come here for our trip. We have stayed many times at high end properties including the Waldorf Astoria brand and Ritz Carlton. The suite itself is on the same level as those at the aforementioned resorts and properties though maybe a little over the top compared especially to the Hyatt Andaz brand which has a more modern aesthetic. I would say the honeymoon suite is designed for the Chinese market with its over the top red tub and crystals hanging around the bed but all in all it's very nice. The honeymoon suites come with a butler but it is different than other resorts where the butler will handle in room dining of which this resort does not offer. So really your butler is there to handle questions you may have and offer rides to the buffet or the main island if you choose not to ride the bikes. Our butler Chelsea was great though and very helpful with any question or need we had.

The dining was very good. Staying in the honeymoon suites you get to eat at the a la carte restaurants for lunch and dinner everyday where the normal guests get a trip once to each place during their stay unless they want to pay 60 dollars each for more trips. For us the food did get repetitive as we were there for 9 nights but overall it was always very good and well presented and fresh. On our final night the chef gave us a special meal and it was lovely. For breakfast we would eat at the main island where the buffet was located. The selection was very large and they would make you omelets, pancakes and waffles. Pretty much anything you could ask for. So much food that it was overwhelming but also great at the same time. The alcohol was good as well as it was all included except for some premium spirits like Jack Daniels but what was included was perfectly acceptable. Beer on tap and specialty cocktails were all very good.

Diving: I did 4 dives and got nitrox certified as well. The dive partners are good and very professional. While not inexpensive I didn't find them to be over priced. About what you would expect for this level of resort.

The grounds were very well kept and this resort does a really good job making the place feel very nice and high end. While there are a lot of villas the resort never feels crowded even though they were at full capacity while we were there.

The best snorkeling is off of the honeymoon suites. I spent a lot of time swimming around there and saw everything including turtles and sharks. The rest of the resort is so so for snorkeling but off the honeymoon suites is as close to scuba quality life as you can get.

The outdoor shower is pretty amazing but a bit concerning that the waste water with our soap and shampoo and whatnot does go directly into the ocean. Hopefully the soaps etc are environmentally friendly that are provided.

The rock bar is great and is a must at least once during your stay.

Wanted to use the gym but lets be honest who wants to work out on vacation. It is very nice though and available for those who are motivated.

The spa was very nice and we had two couples massages included which we upgraded for extended time that was well worth the cost. We tipped our therapists after each massage 20 dollars each. I tipped most of the employees we encountered throughout our stay at the end of the trip. Depending on the interaction we had I gave 5-10 dollars each. It was very difficult to determine the correct amount here as there is no hard and fast rule in fact I think that they prefer we don't tip as it is all inclusive but the workers all seemed to be happy. I gave much more to our butler who did spend everyday making sure our trip was perfect.

We did the dolphin excursion and were able to see a bunch of dolphins. I also saw dolphins while on the scuba boat as well. Though I would say that this excursion was probably not worth the price, spend your money going on the other island or Manta rays instead.

In parting I would say that our trip would have been just fine at 7-8 nights and that would have left us wanting more. We felt as if we had done and seen everything that could have been seen by our 9th day. In Maui or Jamaica you have nice beaches with lounges and umbrellas that make for a very relaxing time. Here we had that on our balcony but the time noon or 1 pm comes around the intense sun heats everything up and it makes it tough to continue to sit out. So we had a routine where we would have breakfast early, read on our balcony till lunch then do other things until dinner and head back after dinner sneaking some drinks with us to sit out after dark maybe using our pool. I still managed to get The Arsenal of Democracy read during that time though.

It is positioned as a 4 star plus resort and I find that to be a very accurate rating. With everyone doing their best and being very friendly and the resort itself being very nice and well maintained you cannot go wrong choosing this for your holiday vacation.
