This review is for our stay during a soft opening of the resort.
Reception and lodging
From the time we were greeted at shore on the mainland, OBR taxi and guide were attentive in ensuring an enjoyable boat ride to the resort on Isla Grande. We were promptly and properly secured to our seats on the boat, then the porters quickly moved on to handle our belongings with great care. After about a 10 mins boat ride, we arrived to the north side of Isla Grande and the resort greeted us with its grand stretch of white beach and blue on white enclave.
As soon was we docked, the resort staff was already waiting and began to help us onto the pier, then on to the transport AVT headed to the reception area. After our welcoming reception and check in, we were soon on our ride to our cabin.
The room was spacious and cool with the AC already running. We right away greeted with the beautiful view of the Caribbean Sea beyond through the grand wall to ceiling glass window. What a welcome! Our host showed us the room’s amenities, how to work the AC remote, and how to connect to the resort’s wifi, etc.
At close up with the building are the colorful tropical and aquatic hand paintings; work from a local artist commissioned by OBR. Each room is themed by the painting’s subject, a bird, fish, etc.
Overall a wonderful welcome.
Meals & Hospitality
All our meals were at the resort during our stay. At the time, only the main restaurant and the restaurant below it near the pool were open. The cuisine is Panamanian fusion, though we had a melt-in-your-mouth prime rib for dinner and it rivaled The House of Prime Rib from the States. Other successes like the freshness touches of South Asia, such as winged beans and prawn salad. A dish that highlighted the available fresh produce from OBR's farm on premise.
The main dining room is spacious and adorned with handmade wood furniture crafted entirely by local furniture makers. The room is aired by a giant fan hung under the beautiful thatched roof. We caught ourselves moments with cocktail in hand and simply enjoying the breeze and the sound of the sea washing the beach steps away.
We have had great services at the resort with only a small glitch at breakfast where we waited for a bit long time for a cappuccino. We ended up with a regular drip coffee instead and found out that the servers were having an issue with their espresso machine. Given was it was OBR’s soft opening, it was quite understanding and not an issue for us.
I’m an avid swimmer. I enjoyed my laps every morning in OBR’s private sea pool that’s protected by a crescent shaped jetty on the sea side and the white sand on the beach side. What a treat!
Last words
Overall, we had a wonderful and peaceful time at the resort. The staff were friendly and always with a smile. They went out of their way to accommodate our needs during the stay. The resort sits on a section north side of Isla Grande where aside from a private home from afar right, you can feel the privacy and tranquility of the resort’s enclave.
We can’t wait to come back to OBR!
