This was the third visit to Villa N Banga and definitely will not be our last! The very first visit we were met by Lee (owner) and offered refreshments and shown around our accommodation.
The wooden cabin sleeps 8 (4 bedrooms) and there are 3 bathrooms - everything is very comfortable! Their is a good kitchen - but the best thing about this kitchen is that it gets cleaned every morning and afternoon by the housekeeper.
Your towels get changed and your linen gets changed - they can wash your clothes aswell (for a small charge)
Every night the fishermen and women come down to the lagoon and throw out their nets and spend hours bringing in the catch - its an amazing thing to see! But these very same people will come around to all the visitors the following morning to sell you what they have caught - it doesn't get fresher than this! One warning though - the largest prawns will always be on top of the bucket, teasing you into believing the whole bucket is full of the same and then you just blindly buy - have a look at whats inside before you part with your money. If you are vacationing before the holidays, you will always have lovely large prawns! And another treat is that the housekeeper will clean them for you if you ask - and again a small tip is given afterwards.
There is a bar with ice cold drinks, a small plunge pool which is awesome to laze in after you have burnt yourself silly on the beach!
There is no place like this anywhere else! Getting here is not fun, but once you arrive you will understand that the journey has a massive payoff! The lodge is on a salt water lagoon - so its the beach without the waves crashing on top of you, the water is clear and beautiful and you can basically roll out of the house and into the water - which is my kind of place! In front of the house and some of the tents there is a HUGE braai area, perfect spot to spend the evenings while grilling your fish.
You will never want to leave! Bring your boat, quads - whatever toys you have and maximize your time.
Bilene is worth a visit - but if you have your own boat its much easier getting there by boat, than by road. But its a fun little place that you can wander around and spend some money.
Don't bring bread with - BUY the Portuguese rolls here!!!!!!
Take your own medicine and emergency supplies - there isn't anything close by if you get a headache, or cut your foot - bring your own everything, its just so much easier than hassling about finding a pharmacy somewhere in Bilene.
Lots of sunblock and booze - and have a blast!!!

“Perfect spot for relaxing weekend”
Reviewed 2 April 2013 for a stay in April 2013

I visited Villa N'Banga in the village of Vila N'Banga on the lagoon Uembje for the second time, this time with my partner, just one night .
We booked on the phone, when we were already on the way towards Bilene...and were lucky there was one tent left!

Just as nice as last time. Nothing happens in this quiet spot - except...this time we were disturbed a little by the water scooters roaring along very close to the beach for hours at a time. Would suggest to users of these to have fun a little further away from the beach where people swim...can't imagine there is any difference in the fun for you..? Seems like a bit of a show-off, but actually is more annoying... Anyway, that aside, there is not much to disturbe your peace here!

The tent we had had been refurished since last time, and boasted a really nicely decorated bathroom in the back, as well as a tiny but well-functioning kitchen at the porch, and a little sitting area with cushions and fire/BBQ place outside, 50 meters from the beach through the beautiful, quiet, shaded garden. We were allowed to stay in the tent through the early afternoon the day we left, so the staff offers some flexibility when the next day is not busy, which adds to the overall impression.

The bar and restaurant adds to the convenience, and we had a simple but nice dinner there. Allow for a lot of time for the food, though, as a little notice board informs: Food Preparation: 1H..! I think it actually didn't take quite as long as an hour but not much less. Sit back and relax - there is no rush..!!

It's easier access to the shore from than from Bilene, where you need a boat, if you like running it's a nice winding up-and down sandy road (appr 2 kms?) to reach a beautiful dune that leads down to the beach, which is as deserted and nice as most places along Mozambique's coast, but with strong waves so be careful when you swim (and don't let children play in the water unless they are really good swimmers!)

Next time I'll bring my wind surf board - lagoon must be perfect for an advanced beginner like me: Secluded and very little tricky waves!

I'd recommend this place as a quiet getaway if you need to do really nothing, or for a family with small kids, since the beach is about as child-friendly as it gets.
