Finally getting round to writing a review (sorry Rex!)!
We visited St James's Club last October and had the most amazing 14 nights stay in this beautiful villa and resort. We also had the added absolute pleasure of meeting the lovely Rex and Lesley who could not have been more helpful and welcoming, they treated us like family and we thoroughly enjoyed their company!
Our party consisted of 2 adults and to teenage kids, the accommodation was perfect for us and there was plenty within the resort to keep us all occupied for holiday. The water sports were excellent and the guys running them were always extremely helpful and great fun - thank you guys!! We were lucky to have first choice on all the facilities for the first 10 days as the English schools hadn't broken for half term - the last couple of days were very busy! (We are from Scotland!). Learning to sail and paddle board were a particular highlight! The 2 beaches were beautiful, one wild and windy and the other calm but both were equally stunning! Our daughter got stung by a jellyfish one afternoon and one of the ladies running the beach huts was so incredibility kind and helpful we could not thank her enough - plain vinegar did the trick! All the pools were great - again quiet before the school's broke up! We also enjoyed the activities laid on by the resort.
We were not all inclusive and were on a budget so found eating in the resort quite pricey, supermarkets were also expensive compared to home but that's to be expected, if you do choose not to go all inclusive then take all the advice Rex gives as it's invaluable! He knows all the best places!
It was our 3rd visit to the island so we hired a car a few times and enjoyed exploring places again, Half Moon beach is a must! St John's can be really hot and a bit mental when a cruise ship is in but again worth a visit.
Massive thanks to Rex, Lesley and the staff of St James's Club for making this the most wonderful holiday we have had - we can't wait to visit again, the place is truly outstanding!
Where do I start, absolutely beautiful villa in a stunning location with picturesque views and just a stones throw from the beach and pools.
What more could you ask for?
The villa was spotlessly clean, fully equipped and has all the amenities you require even down to the small homely touches. It is beautifully furnished and spacious, plenty of room for 6 Adults with ease.
The resort is stunning in its own right, and although we didn't travel with small children ourselves, very child friendly.
The option of self catering or all inclusive will cater for most. We opted for self catering and were not disappointed nor did we feel like we were missing out or being treated any differently by the hotel staff.
Food is slightly expensive due to mostly being imported but manageable.
There are some small supermarkets located close to the resort but the large supermarket is within 30 minutes drive and will cater for all needs. Taxis are easily available from the on site office or via reception, however i would recommend the hire of a car for the supermarket trip as this will likely work out cheaper than the taxi!
Hiring a car is a must due to the beautiful gems hidden around the island and culture to explore, including some amazing local restaurants, Half Moon Bay - The Beach Bum Shack and English Harbour - Trappas to name just two.
Stingray City is a must also.
The option to utilise the resorts facilities including the bars and restaurants if you don't fancy cooking or walking back to the villa from the beach for a drink was a lovely addition meaning you can have the best of both worlds, especially the rum buggy that drives along the beach and resort.
All extras are charged to the room which means you do not have to worry about carrying cash, bonus!
The water sports and activity facilities are excellent, all fully included in the price so definitely worth ensuring you make the most of those.
The hotel staff and local people are all so welcoming and friendly that your stay will be made even more pleasurable, always happy to help and answer any questions.
Be aware Wifi is available but is only free in public locations, such a reception and the bar areas, in the villa it is charged at 10 US Dollar per Day so can work out on the expensive side, however the Mamora Bar is located just a couple of staircases away from the villa and so can easily be accessed if you want to keep in touch with the world.
Overall I cannot recommend Villa 405 and St James Club more, Rex the villa owner was more than helpful giving lots of tips and guidance on where to shop and eat and nothing was too much trouble when contacting him.
The booking process was simple and easy we had absolutely no issues at all throughout our stay.
Only pointer to highlight is be aware you do not get maid service or clean towels unless you book and pay for this via reception due to the villa being privately owned. However all beach towels are free and so we took a fresh set back to the villa to shower with and placed them in the towel bin just outside the front of the villa when finished with and started again every couple of days, simple and easy solution.
Absolutely will be returning again in the future and extremely likely to rent this villa again! Fabulous Holiday had by all!
We have just returned from 2 weeks staying in this beautiful villa with in the St James Club with the swimming pools and beach on our door step ,we had 2 small children with us and they were never bored.Having a car is a must to get around and see all the island and it's lovely beaches.
We catered for ourselves eating out in the local restaurants and when we were feelings lazy picked up pizza and chilled in the villa,my family and myself loved every minute and will be going back.
We took our grown up children for our first family holiday for many years and the villa and resort were perfect for our needs. The villa is comfortably and stylishly furnished, fully equipped and was spotless. Staff on the resort are very helpful and there is lots on offer without it feeling like an expensive Butlins! Going in August is a gamble with the weather, but we were lucky and it does mean it's fairly quiet as it's considered low season. You do need to hire a car or rely on taxis if you want to go anywhere as the resort is fairly isolated, but the staff make this very easy. Buying food in the resort shop is not recommended if you are self catering: very expensive and limited supplies. We took a 4 day fully inclusive option which is expensive unless (like my 21 year old son) you have a big appetite! We found the food at St. James was acceptable, but we have eaten better in the Caribbean and would recommend trying other places on the island. The owner was very helpful and the whole booking experience was very straightforward, but beware of a couple of hidden extras: the wifi is only free in public areas (not in the villa itself) and when we asked for clean towels we were told we would have to pay extra as it was a privately owned villa. The whole experience was fantastic, but do make sure you use all facilities at the resort to get full value for money.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 weeks at the end of June with our 3 grown up children. St James is a lovely resort with 2 superb beaches. There are lots of amenities for all ages, we used the gym, tennis courts, adult only pool (with waterfalls) and facilities on Mamora beach which included paddle boards, kayaks, wind surfing and snorkelling. There are also daily activities for adults including exercise classes and beach volley ball, which my 23 year old son took part in, even in 30 degree heat!
Our villa was superb with a beautiful view across Mamora Bay. The villa facilities were excellent with a double and twin bedroom both with en-suite shower rooms, plus a sofa bed in the spacious open plan lounge/kitchen diner. There is also a large upstairs terrace with sun loungers, dining table and BBQ. We ate in the villa quite often but also had breakfast, lunch and dinner in the main resort and food from the beach bar.
The staff couldn't have been more helpful from Alfred delivering cold drinks with a smile on the beach to Vincent who got fresh fish from St Johns market on his day off for us to BBQ.
We also hired the Catamaran for the day with another family and had a superb day out with the crew.
We travelled out quite often, visiting Nelsons Dockyard and eating at Cloggies in English Harbour, Pappa's at Falmouth Harbour (all within a 15 minute drive) and took a taxi for a wonderful meal at Sheer Rocks near Jolly Harbour.
For us it was fantastic holiday that truly ticked all the boxes - a beautiful location and villa, lovely weather and friendly people. We were able to relax and unwind and just enjoy being in paradise for two weeks.
Hoping to return again next year!
