“Great family friendly place”

We hired both Butterdon and Marsdon cottages as there were 8 adults and two toddlers in our group. The houses were perfect with great family friendly touches-high chairs, travelcots stair gates and plastic crockery.
The master room with added loft rooms were perfect for us with children.
All facilities in the house were great.
The gardens were lovely and it's a pleasure to eat breakfast watching the birds in the garden-we even saw a woodpecker one morning.
The surrounding area is stunning- the lake on the grounds is beautiful I just wish it was warmer when we went for a dip!!!
The nearby riverside walk to the pub is gorgeous and well worth a visit-food at the fingle bridge inn was lovely.
We also visited the red lion pub about a 15 min drive away and the food there was fantastic.
Another great day out at the Haldon forest centre where we all went cycling.
All in all a lovely place, great hosts, great location great facilities highly recommended.

“Superb Cottage in Fabulous Location”
Reviewed 21 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Spent a relaxing week with wife and 2 young kids (6 and 8) in Mardon. The cottage is perfect for a family of four, comfortable, clean with great character and all mod cons. The facilities on site made the holiday, particularly fishing and boating on the lake, walking on the farm and surrounding local area and table tennis, pool etc in the 'Party Barn' during the odd rain shower. Vicki, Gavin and family are the perfect hosts. We will return!

“First class cottages in breathtaking location”
Reviewed 24 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

We (six adults plus two babies) rented both Butterdon and Mardon for the weekend of a friend's wedding at Bovey Castle. The cottages are spectacular, done up to the highest standards and will excellent kitchen equipment. The owner, Vicki, had also kindly provided travel cots and high chairs for the two little ones, and also very comprehensive stairgating which was brilliant. The log burner was great to set up after dinner for lounging and chatting, and it was a delight to arrive on the Friday evening and find the most enormous (and delicious!) victoria sponge cake on the table, along with some local Dartmoor apple juice - a brilliant touch. The only downside is that there is no mobile signal, but Butterdon has a landline which makes up for any lack of advance arrangements, plus there is good wifi. And once settled into the swing of Dartmoor life, the lack of signal is no problem at all.

I wholeheartedly recommend both cottages as perfect for couples, young families or groups of friends for a wonderful break in beautiful Dartmoor, and great value as well. We will definitely be back!

Liked best: The cake!
Liked least: That the cooker was electric, but I can't imagine mains gas reaches the cottages.

Have been travelling to Dartmoor for years. But never found anywhere quite like this! Beautiful, stunning, peaceful, perfect. Cant recommend highly enough. Worth every penny and can't wait to go back next year. The cottage is very well equipped and owners very friendly.

“Peace at last”

Remote, hidden in the wooded valley, this old farmhouse has been beautifully converted into two cottages adjoining the owners residence. Plenty of space around with tumbling outbuildings, sheds and farm stuff. There's an old barn for wet days with a new table tennis table, not so new pool table and an ancient piano that was played by William the Third. Nature is everywhere, buzzards are common, owls, hundreds of rabbits. Walks abound in this area, Fingle Bridge to Castle Drogo being the best known. Keep to the relatively main roads if possible. You can get to the coastal towns easily, but short cuts should be made illegal, especially if you don't want to scratch your car or help herd a load of cattle to new pastures. The actual cottage is really quite spacious, very we'll furnished and a lovely little garden to compliment. Every possible requirement is catered for in a thoughtful way. The owners couldn't be more welcoming. Beds are excellent. New bathrooms. Cake on arrival will make you smile. Downers, well no, I can honestly say I love this place to bits. Enjoy, relax, watch the stars shine so clearly at night in the cute little garden, walk yourself to deaths door. And come back to the grime feeling great. Great holiday, fabulous cottage. Loved it.
