“Great Family Holiday”
Reviewed 8 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Just spent a week in the Chalets at Ardwell.
It is a beautiful spot - right on the bay which provides a lovely view with a beautiful sun rise.
The location is very quiet which allowed our daughter (18 months old) plenty of space to run around. Her favourite activities were throwing stones in the sea, digging on the beach and looking for rabbits.
There are plenty of places to visit in the local area.
The chalets are basic but very comfortable.
All in all a great family holiday - we are already planning our next trip!

Booked for 1 week , on arrival was met by a unspoilt ocean view , I got the chalet of my choice.
Was lovely watching sun rise/ sunset and a clear night sky of stars. We had lovely sunshine while it rained back home !
Both Chris the owner and Helen the manager were friendly and on hand to answer any questions and advise on local attractions ect.
Chalets were clean, 2 bedroom I took a travel cot which fitted snuggly into the bunk bed room.
There was washing up liquid , cooking oil, salt pepper a toilet roll bar of soap bleach - all these extras do make a big difference.
There was a TV in living room, kitchen had a fridge with small freezer compartment and microwave.
. £1 coins elec meter roughly used £2 a day
Now here's my gripe no signal no 3G or wifi
Nightmare when it came to use sat nav or Google to find attractions petrol station ect.
A car is a must as nearest shop is 3 mile away but we did find houses round about that sold eggs, jam, vegetables & fruit.
On a Sunday 2 lovely bread ladies pull up in their postman pat type van selling fresh bread , buns and treats mmmmm was yummy - would be even better if it was more than once a week but you can put a order in for a Friday delivery.
We visited Logan botanic gardens , lighthouse at mull of Galloway, port Patrick , port William & Logan fish pond to name a few.
*I think picking up your dog poo after your dog should be added to the rules as 1 chalet was just letting their dogs do business anywhere and not picking it up were children are playing! *
Hubby tried fishing numerous times but "sea wasn't deep enough"
There is a fishing tackle shop in the village that also sells ice creams & cans of pop.
We had a lovely relaxing break making lovely memories, would def recommend and would love to go back sometime.

Thanks for your positive review. I'm sorry we don't have WiFi or 3G but a lot of people find being away from it all part of the attraction, and we do provide a folder full of leaflets and maps on all the places to go.
We don't condone dog fouling and had you brought it to our notice we would have had a word with the appropriate people. We hope we'll see you both again next summer.

“Breathtaking corner of Scotland”

Me, the wife and our three-year-old boy stayed here for one week in July and it was absolute bliss. Fantastic views across the bay, a beach literally outside your front door and plenty to see and do. But best of all, this place is just so peaceful and quiet you soon forget everyday stresses and find yourself settling into a more laid back approach to life!

You’re within easy reach of Mull of Galloway Lighthouse and RPSB reserve, Logan Fishpond, Galloway Forest Park (don’t miss the Raider’s Road and its Otter Pool picnic spot), as well as little gems like the charming fishing village of Portpatrick and Scotland’s “Book Town” of Wigtown.

But you don’t have to go far to find beauty; in fact you don’t have to go anywhere! From the comfort of our chalet we watched seals lazing about in the shallows and our little lad loved nothing more than putting his wellies on and stepping out onto the beach to look for crabs or to throw stones into the sea!

Ardwell Gardens are a short walk away and are absolutely stunning – make sure you don’t overlook them. This is great birdwatching country too – buzzards and red kites are a common sight and we saw a grey heron in Ardwell Gardens, but the highlight was seeing a huge osprey being pursued by several angry gulls from our chalet porch!

The chalets themselves are a good size, clean, well-maintained and comfortable. There are some nice places to eat nearby too, particularly the uber-cool “StrEatery” – not cheap but the best “fast food” we’ve ever had and the continental soft drinks were amazing!

The people in the neighbouring chalets were most friendly and pleasant and said they’ve been coming back for years – after spending a few days here it wasn’t hard to see why. Our little boy keeps asking to go back and I’m already looking forward to turning off my mobile phone and heading back for some quality family time!

“Perfect Family Retreat”

We booked 2 of the Ardwell Chalets in 2014 for 2 weeks and 3 of the Ardwell Chalets in 2013 for 2 weeks. Both visits have been perfect, our family is quite large and these charming chalets absorbed us all. The site warden is lovely and very accommodating. Ardwell is a small and quiet village with beautiful views and perfect little shop that my nieces visited almost every day for ice cream! We weren't very far away from Stranraer where we could do our shopping and Drummore where we could explore some more. The chalets themselves are very clean and comfortable with great facilities. We are a very active family and the distance to the bay was perfect for carrying various kyacks and boats from our front door to the water. We may be booking again this year and would recommend this perfect family retreat to anyone who appreciates true beauty in landscapes and a quiet holiday.

“Perfect chalets in the most perfect location”

I highly recommend these fantastic chalets - we had the most wonderful time. The children loved playing on the beach, which is literally yards from the veranda, and exploring the woods and gardens nearby. They are extremely good value for money and had everything we needed for a week-long visit. We'll be back!
