We enjoyed the most amazing dinner at St Georges on Saturday night. Friends took us out for dinner as we are not from the bay. The meals were beautifully presented and the food was phenomenal right down to the sorbet between courses. The young lady who waited on our table was very attentive and friendly. Will certainly reccommend this restaurant to all. 5 stars to you all.!!!
Hi Marlene, thank you so, so much for your kind words. We are very happy that your friends trusted us to bring you for dinner at ours and we were able to meet expectations! We are looking forward to having you next time you are back in the bay!
Really the score should be 3.5. There is a big difference between "average" and "very good" and this meal fell somewhere in between. First, the good things: The main course was beautifully cooked - meat was tender, lots of interesting flavours that complimented each other and every plate was a work of art. Bonus points for organic, locally grown (in their own garden) fresh ingredients. The not so good: the portion of pork belly was too small, as if it had been halved, making the meal very expensive for what it was, (the beef was a much larger portion, so perhaps they were running out of pork that night?). The desert was underwhelming. As we all ordered the same desert I can't speak for all their deserts, but the apple crumble was very disappointing. Such a simple dish that I can make better myself at home. The ice cream it came with tasted weird - was supposed to be gingernut but instead tasted herby and I didn't like it. The crumble was bashed-up biscuits and there was so much of it that it gave an unbalanced, dry texture to the dish. The apple was nothing special - just cooked apple. When you live in the Bay and have so many fine dining options it is hard not to compare. At $16 per desert I expect the desert to be as well thought out and of as high a standard as the main course, as is the case at Blackbarn, Elephant Hill etc. Overall, I think this restaurant has such great potential, but doesn't quite hit the mark.
Hi there, thanks for the review.
We're sorry the pork belly portion & dessert were a little below the standard of the rest of the meal. We love feedback as it helps us to keep developing, and keeps us in touch with our customers wants. We are always trying to improve & learn from our errors. So we do really appreciate your review. We've since changed desserts (and other parts of the menu), so perhaps you might like to pop back and give us another try.
Thanks again!
What an exceptional place to visit for any occasion! It is a must do. 6 of us ladies dined for lunch and we were blown away by the menu from start to finish, service was perfection and the atmosphere was so relaxing. Thank you so much!
Thanks very much! We had a lovely time looking after you, and I’m glad we helped you have such a beautiful afternoon. Can’t wait to have you visit again
Dinner last evening was an unbelievably good experience. The food at this restaurant if phenomenal. Organic beef from the chef’s cattle and vegetables grown in his garden! The service was also fantastic, great explanations, friendly and efficient. Can’t rate St George Restaurant highly enough.
Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review. We are thrilled you enjoyed all of our offerings and we very much look forward to serving you again soon Thankyou Francky & Kathryn Godinho
