Saturday Night Dinner

Review of Mangapapa Hotel
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 Jan 2021
Our Son and family wanted to take us out for a meal as we were staying with them for a couple of nights, This Hotel when you drive in has a great welcoming entrance and when you pull up there is this large renovated House, we were welcomed into the entry and sat down in the lounge for predrinks, hors d'oeuvres came and were well presented, lounge we were in had a great old fireplace and could imagine in winter fire lit and enjoying the warmth having a nice wine or coffee, we were then ushered into the restaurant and seated, menu (many courses) explained and was something for everyone. Our meal was well presented and a good size, the chef came out and made sure we were all satisfied, which was commendable. I noticed in the Lounge on a cabinet was some Trophies of the Chef winning a yearly competition so when you visit for a meal you can expect a special night.
We will visit again when we go to our Children in Hastings later in the year.
The grounds are beautifully kept and the old trees were spectacular and good for children to run around.

Mangapapa Hotel, we’ve just returned from a very special Christmas experience at the Mangapapa. Being away from family and friends we decided to do something special and we honestly could not have chosen anything better.
From the welcoming smiling faces when we arrived to the beautiful Homestead Suite, relaxing massage and delicious dinner. Waking on Christmas morning to a scrummcious breakfast facing a view to die for with a glass of bubbles in my hand. The evening ended with an outstanding 8 course dinner.
Thank you Mangapapa for making Christmas 2020 so special and one we will never forget.

We spent a couple of nights here just before Christmas 2020 and thoroughly enjoyed it. We dinned in one night having the 5 course Chefs dinner. It was actually 9 courses including the bread, the sorbet and the other bits and pieces. Each course was excellent but there was really too much food and I couldn't eat the last one - not to worry though my husband ate mine as well as his. There was a wine tasting to start and, this is a suggestion not a criticism, the wine may have been better matched to the food rather than served beforehand, especially if you had already had a drink in the bar before dinner.

The rooms were very nice, clean and comfortable and the breakfast which was included in the tariff was good (better the second day than the first) but the best thing about the place was the staff who were exceptional in their efforts - there were more staff than guests which is always a bit of a worry.

It is not the cheapest place to stay nor is it near anything touristy but if you are looking for quiet and old world elegance it is perfect and we will happily go back.

Room tip: They are all good, just depends on how big you want them to be

Brilliant weekend at Mangapapa! Great place and the service was sooo good from welcoming and helpful staff. The hotel is just beautiful and the rooms spacious. Service was excellent - and don't start me on the meals = especially the 'High Tea'. Recommend to everyone planning to be in the Hawkes Bay.

As previously, Mangapapa’s High Tea exceeded expectations, so we have booked in December to take our staff along to share the experience (we are 2 1/2 hours drive away). We stayed 2 nights in one of the suites at $665 a night. I have to say that the lack of attention to detail was very evident and disappointing and feel that international visitors would certainly expect a much higher standard.

I booked the winter bundle for my 60th birthday treat as all my overseas trips were cancelled and I really needed to be spoilt. I was not disappointed.
Bubbles and a beautiful platter when we arrived, a beautifully appointed room with views over the pool and the biggest bathroom.
The 5 course meal was one of the best we have had with wine tasting to start.
The morning greeted us with a beautiful walk around the quiet grounds and a delicious breakfast.
My niece and myself had a wonderful treatment at the spa just in time to get back to the conservatory to enjoy a girls high tea.
The staff made my weekend, we were treated like VIPs and made my birthday weekend one to remember.
Thank you so much and I cant wait for the next time.
