How fortunate Charlottetown has this wonderful venue to enjoy a variety of shows throughout the year. It is a nice facility with several theatre venues. In September we saw the "Million Dollar Quartet" that remembered the radio show that happened only one time. This excellent show had Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley and Carl Perkins, all doing great impersonations. This show is from Las Vegas. The building is very large - just a heads up - go out the same door you go in or you might get very confused as we were. There are refreshments available and a gift shop.

Went to see a trieo that played a variety of music, old time, modern, some theirown some not. Didn't matter, the performance was upbeat, fast moving & the evening flew by! Heard of the East Pointers but never saw them live. Will definitely see them again!

My partner and I had the pleasure of visiting the Confederation Centre of the Arts during our stay in Charlottetown this past summer. During our first day we were sure to take in “The Story of Confederation,” which was a fine albeit simplified version of the coming together of Canada. We also took a look at the Confederation Chamber replica. I always appreciate it when a city embraces its historic past rather than try to sweep it under the rug as we’ve tended to do with a lot of things these days.

For us, the main event was being able to witness and see “Anne of Green Gables – The Musical” later in the evening. Now recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the “longest running annual musical theatre production,” the musical is now in its 53rd season. To witness this play is to witness the best of Canadiana. LM Montgomery would be proud of this rendition of her classic book series. The production values are top notch; the music sets the mood for the story; and the actors and actresses give it their all. Even if you have never read the source material from which this play springs, you can still nevertheless get a real fix and feel for the underlying themes of the story and how they very much represent the heart and soul of a country. Indeed, the show is a beautiful piece of Canadian artistic and literary history; thus, it is only fitting that the longest running musical in history should play in a building designed to serve as the bastion of Canadian artistic ethos.

If you are visiting Charlottetown, the Confederation Centre of the Arts is a definite “must stop.” It provides historic context while seamlessly blending our contemporary time and space – a nation moving ever forward and onward. And if you happen to get the chance to see the Anne of Green Gables musical then do yourself a favour and get tickets. The production is outstanding in every respect and, hey, by the end of it you just might find yourself craving some raspberry cordial ;)
