During our stay at Hotel X, all staff was extremely kind and helpful. An outstanding staff member by the name of Sydney helped us with multiple issues during our stay and expressed nothing but kindness.

I booked a night for my son and I to stay and enjoy the pool and amenities through Expedia, and due to covid they require that you book a reservation for the pool. I called countless times with no answer ahead of time, and emailed multiple times over a few weeks prior to our visit. Finally the day before we arrive they wrote to say because we booked on Expedia, we weren't allowed to reserve ahead of time, only those who book directly at the hotel.
Consequently, when we arrived we could only go to the pool after 5 pm.
Their rooftop lounge took 25 mins for a drink and both food orders were wrong.
We went to have a drink in the lobby before dinner and we're told that drinks would be 20 mins.
I actually stayed here before and the service was Fantastic, not sure what happened to this place- which is unfortunate as I live in the area and would have frequented the place for corporate events.

Dear Nomad541292,

We are very sorry to hear about your experience. Regarding the situation with the pool, we allow the pre-booking of our limited pool availability once we are assured that our guests plans are definite. For example, when guests book our pay now and save, they are able to make the reservation at the time of booking. When booking through a third-party website, we are unable to ensure that our guests will be able to attend the reservation. We apologize that you were unable to use the pool until after 5pm and we are looking forward to the time when we can run the pool at full capacity once again.

We also sincerely apologize that your food orders were incorrect and that it took so long for your order to arrive. We are extremely grateful for the fact that demand for the SkyBar has been high, and we are doing our absolute best to get orders to our guests as efficiently as possible and will do our best to make sure this does not happen again.

We are happy to hear that you felt the service was fantastic on your first stay with us and we will do everything we can to make sure we are providing that same service moving forward.

If you’re open to it, I would love to discuss this matter further through my email at joseph.quintanilha@hotelxtoronto.com
We sincerely hope you will give us another try in the future.

Warm Regards,
Joseph Quintanilha

Let's start with the good. Lovely hotel, extremely pleasant and accommodating staff. We had a beautiful one bedroom suite. However, considering that this is a new hotel, the towels were stained and already frayed, bathroom drawers were dirty and there was debris around the bed. This lack of attention to real cleanliness was a sign of a much larger problem:

Over and over during our two night stay we saw unmasked staff. As well, guests were allowed to go mask-less in plain view of staff.

1. Let's start with the restaurant staff:

On three separate occasions while walking through the main restaurant to the patio we saw unmasked restaurant staff chatting away with their masks resting in a permanent position below their chins. These staff were at serving stations set directly inside the restaurant, in full view of guests preparing the food. Hmmm...

Each time we asked the hostess to please tell them to put their masks on. The third time when I asked her " Does it help if someone tells the staff to put their masks on?" I could see from the look in her eyes, and her embarrassed silence that it did not. No fault of hers - it is obviously a management problem and saying the hotel does adhere to Covid protocols is merely lip service.

2. Got off the elevator at the rooftop bar - saw two staff members talking without their masks. They saw us and put them on. - but too late. Covid is an airborne disease - They were standing in a small hallway and if they were infected, the particles would already be in the air ready for all to inhale.

3. While ständing at the reception area to the rooftop bar I noticed another kitchen on the floor, the door was open - the chef was chatting without his mask - he caught my gaze and put it on. Again too late.

It doesn't matter if staff are vaccinated or not. Twenty percent of people getting Covid right now are fully vaccinated - but luckily they will avoid serious illness.
However, fully vaccinated people can spread to others , even if they are not symptomatic - meaning they can spread to unvaccinated children, the elderly who have a greater chance of getting more severe disease, and immune compromised individuals.

4.I saw unmasked guests lounging in the lobby in full view of staff. Clearly a blind eye is the rule of the thumb.

What is so shocking to me, is that in Ontario, being unmasked in public settings is against the law. We live in Toronto. We often do take-out from restaurants and can see right into the kitchen. I have never seen anyone un-masked - nor have I seen anyone unmasked in a public setting here in Toronto.

5. While there are signs all over the X hotel saying that guests should have masks that fit snugly around their faces ( when they are wearing them...), the staff have all been given ill-fitting black fabric masks which are loose and ill-fitting, often dropping and resting just under their noses.

This systemic lack of attention to the most basic of protocols, despite advertising otherwise, makes you wonder that something going on at the top level is not quite right.

Too bad because I would have liked to come back to this hotel, but not until Covid protocols are really enforced.

Room tip: Ask for a higher floor if noise bothers you. We were on the 15th floor and could still hear outside traffic loud and clear.

Dear Susan M,

Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention and we sincerely apologize that you experienced all these issues during your stay. Rest assured we do absolutely everything in our power to ensure all of our guests and staff are safe and follow proper COVID-19 protocols. We have provided all members with adjustable high quality masks and do everything in our power to make sure every staff member is wearing their masks at all times. We have enforced strict COVID-19 rules and protocols throughout the building to ensure the safety and well-being of our guests. Those staff members that are seen not wearing their masks will be dealt with internally to make sure incidents like this do not happen again.

In regards to hotel guests, we have signs posted at every entrance, in all of our elevators, on reservation confirmations, our website, and we even provide complimentary masks available at our Front Desk, Valet, Pool, Spa, Fitness Areas and Restaurants. We try to provide every opportunity for guests to follow proper mask etiquette, even when they may have forgotten or lost their mask. It is everyone's responsibility to follow proper mask etiquette when indoors, and all of our staff are informed to gently, yet firmly remind guests when they may have forgotten to wear a mask and offer one when needed.

It is a very difficult situation to navigate these days, however rest assured all of our amazing associates are dedicated to the safety, security and enjoyment of our property for everyone. Our management team will step in and remind those guests and staff members who have forgotten or may be less vigilant in wearing their mask properly. We do our very best to police and enforce the policy and we are disappointed that despite our best efforts, we still failed to make you feel as comfortable as possible.

Rest assured this is not a management issue but a diligence issue. With the vaccine passport rules coming out on September 22nd, we have reminded our staff about proper mask etiquette and to be wearing their masks at all times. From our valet, to front desk, to food and beverage, to housekeeping, it is every department’s responsibility to keep guests and staff safe and we remind them of this at every daily briefing.

Should you wish to discuss this further, please feel free to connect with my through email at fariyal.hasham@hotelxtoronto.com

Room was clean, was on 22 fl facing the lake.
Pool was great, reservations had to be made because of COVID.
Playing tennis on 4th floor was a highlight however we found the courts to be quite hot and stuffy.
All the staff were courteous and attentive to our needs, including Front desk
Parking garage was well lit and spacious.
we did not dine onsite so i cant rate the food.
Note: This hotel is on the Toronto Exhibition grounds and getting to alternatives for food or drink is a good walk.

Room tip: we were on fl 22 middle south facing, nice birds eye view but could only see island airport and ontario place.
