I already want to go back

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 8 Jul 2024
We were three friends looking for a peaceful place to stay in Niagara on the Lake after our wine tour and my friend said "I found the perfect place." And DID SHE! The South Landing Inn is, indeed, the perfect place to unwind for any reason. We had Room 6, the upstairs suite, and it was right out of a Hallmark movie. Spacious and homey--we loved that it wasn't super posh, it was thoughtfully decorated and cared for so we weren't afraid to actually live in it. We really just moved right in.

Staff were incredibly kind, accommodating, and generous with their time helping us figure out our plans.

And then there was the upscale continental breakfast! I wish I had a photo, but I was too busy eating. The pastries took me to France, emotionally. Everything was fantastic, hearty, beautiful, and simple (except for the exquisite pastries), and they are happy to cater to a variety of dietary needs every day, and especially if you give them a few days notice.

And I have to talk about the tea situation. As a tea drinker, my expectations of a cup of tea outside of my own house are low, but especially when staying overnight at a hotel or similar. The South Landing Inn's tea service blew me away in the best possible way. The guest pantry on the main floor has personal glass tea pots that you can brew a delightful small pot of one of their lovely loose leaf teas and take it back to your room--the suite also had an electric kettle which was a delightful surprise (and there were small tea pots and some loose leaf tea in a drawer in the suite as well, I just had to go downstairs for some milk). And the provided mugs are just right.

One thing that's particularly noteworthy in this day in electronics: the inn is so close to the border that my phone kept thinking I was in the US, and the cell signal wasn't great when my phone knew I was still in Canada. And the wifi wasn't hugely robust either, and you know what that meant? We watched FRIENDS rereuns on the tv, drank tea and chatted and just completely disconnected. It was truly a vacation.

After booking I found out that a friend of mine books writing retreats here, and now I know why!

Our only regret was that we only booked one night. I already can't wait to go back. We're staying at least 3 nights next time.
Date of stay: June 2024
Room Tip: Wifi/cell signal isn't robust, making this the perfect place to disconnect. I'm not sure whether...

We made a last minute decision to go to niagara on the lake. Since it was a weekend, everything in town was sold out. (Unless I wanted to spend $1100!) So we stayed here. Very glad everything was booked because this is a beautiful, relaxing little getaway. Lovely people! Marianna at the desk was great! Beds are nice. Had a few moments to read with a cup of coffee on the veranda and it is the best "continental" breakfast ever.

Charming, stunning, restful. Feels like a high-end inn in Nantucket. We could not have been happier with our stay here. Bring books. Enjoy the local wineries. Touristy stuff is a quick 10 minute drive if you want. Cool historical sites nearby. We slept like rocks and will absolutely be back. Giant shout-out to Matt for the fantastic dining recommendations and flexible check-in.

We wanted to see the Canadian Falls. A friend said that Niagara-on-the-lake was close by and very beautiful. And they were right. So much nicer than staying right near the Falls. It is less than 30 minutes to drive and there is even a bus you can take between Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls. The Inn is beautiful and the breakfast was homemade goodies with organic yogurt and juices. The street is so quiet and the area is so peaceful. A great change from the hustle and bustle of Niagara Falls.
I have to also say that they were kind enough hold my payment for a whole year. Let me explain. We had planned this trip last year but just as we were about to cross the border into Canada, my husband tested positive for Covid. I had to cancel my reservation the day of. But rather than just keeping my money, they offered to allow me to come another time. So this trip was paid for last year. What an amazing gift! I would love to visit again and I would definitely stay here.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location is perfect for visiting the falls, Old Town and the wineries. The house was built prior to 1812 but has been completely modernized leaving historical elements and decorated with antiques. The breakfast that was provided was delicious, having been prepared by a local chef. (They were even kind enough to prepare a box breakfast for us the morning we left.) The proprietor, Matt, was personable and interesting, creating a relaxed and welcoming environment.

What an exquisite gem! A fully renovated historic building with a perfect blend of modern amenities and traditional, tasteful accents. We were a group of 8 friends staying a night for the Niagara Icewine Festival. Booked the large 6-person suite (huge) and another 2-person bedroom. Only one other room was occupied this weekend so very quiet. Everything was top notch. Breakfast so made by a local pastry chef! Hosts were super friendly and very knowledgeable about the building. Definitely a repeat stay is in order. Maybe the summer wine festival. Superb.

Room tip: Lots of parking. Rooms are spacious but no cots for additional persons. All dual beds (best for couples).
