I am a Surgeon in who lives in Toronto and I often make short trips and stays in Niagara On the lake which is well known location for its beauty, restaurants and Theatre. My wife and I along with another couple stayed at the River Bend Inn and Vineyard on the 25th April. We checked out the next day after breakfast and everything seemed great. However in the afternoon my friend who had payed for the two rooms with his credit card got a bill for nearly $350.00 charged to his credit card. The hotel said that a pair of bath robes that were in my room are missing. In fairness, they did not openly say that I stole the bath robes, but are charging us for the lost item. There was no phone call to me or my friend to verify if we had actually taken the items nor was there any indication as to whether the hotel investigated how the items were lost. The clear indication was that we stole the bath robes and hence need to pay for it. As mentioned earlier I am a surgeon with a fairly good income and I have travelled all over the world and have never been accused of stealing before. I contacted the hotel and spoke to the manager and the General Manager ( names with held) and after one or two hours I received a phone call saying that the charges have been reversed. In subsequent conversation they somewhat reluctantly apologized and offered to buy us lunch at the hotel if we visited them again.
Needless to say, we are never going back. My advice to future customers is to make sure that there are two bath robes in your room when you check in and that they are there when you leave. When we checked in, there were no bath robes and we didn't know that they are normally provided. T.E. Abraham and R. Abraham
