Warning- Story of Stolen Bath robes

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 27 Apr 2023
I am a Surgeon in who lives in Toronto and I often make short trips and stays in Niagara On the lake which is well known location for its beauty, restaurants and Theatre. My wife and I along with another couple stayed at the River Bend Inn and Vineyard on the 25th April. We checked out the next day after breakfast and everything seemed great. However in the afternoon my friend who had payed for the two rooms with his credit card got a bill for nearly $350.00 charged to his credit card. The hotel said that a pair of bath robes that were in my room are missing. In fairness, they did not openly say that I stole the bath robes, but are charging us for the lost item. There was no phone call to me or my friend to verify if we had actually taken the items nor was there any indication as to whether the hotel investigated how the items were lost. The clear indication was that we stole the bath robes and hence need to pay for it. As mentioned earlier I am a surgeon with a fairly good income and I have travelled all over the world and have never been accused of stealing before. I contacted the hotel and spoke to the manager and the General Manager ( names with held) and after one or two hours I received a phone call saying that the charges have been reversed. In subsequent conversation they somewhat reluctantly apologized and offered to buy us lunch at the hotel if we visited them again.
Needless to say, we are never going back. My advice to future customers is to make sure that there are two bath robes in your room when you check in and that they are there when you leave. When we checked in, there were no bath robes and we didn't know that they are normally provided. T.E. Abraham and R. Abraham
Date of stay: April 2023
Room Tip: When you check in, make sure that the room contains two bath robes and that they are both there...

This inn is beautiful and historic. Incredibly comfortable and cozy. The restaurant is great! The meals are delicious. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
It is walking distance to Peller Estates and the village. Great eateries are close by along with nice shops and boutiques. It is a great spot for a relaxing getaway.

Room tip: The rates are cheaper on weekdays.

Stately old manor with amazing rooms.
Very romantic for that much need weekend away.
The rooms are huge, the beds and pillows are extremely comfortable.
In house restaurant makes dining a breeze, and no need to drive after a few cocktails.
Would definitely stay again.

Room tip: Make dinner reservations

We went just for a night , from the moment we stepped in we were transported to a cozy different world . Service was excellent , rooms were well appointed , dinner at Oakland was amazing , will go again ! Breakfast could be better but understandable due to less guests

This hotel could easily, with a little thought and work, be given five stars!
We wanted a six night getaway in Niagara on the lake and thought that this hotel was just what we were looking for.
The location is great, close to a couple of good restaurants, wineries, parks and bike paths.
The building itself is beautiful, and has an interesting history.
Check in was easy and we received a glass of sparkling wine to celebrate the start of a vacation. Our room was located at the back of the building, looking onto the vineyard and right next to the patio. Upon entering the room, the first thing that caught our eye was the dinner plate sized dark stain on the carpet. The desk chair was also very stained and the rug overall was very old and worn. The bathroom was great and the shower had lots of water pressure.
The inn has a selection of wine on the fireplace mantel to purchase for a good price, however, there was no fridge in the room to chill it. The ice bucket was tiny and made of glass, so the ice melted quickly and condensation dripped all over the desk.
The bed was very comfortable and we would have slept well if not for the very loud noise from upstairs. To be fair, it is quite an old building and was not designed for use as a hotel but hearing every noise that your upstairs neighbours make is quite disturbing.
The room was ground level and at many times during the day staff and visitors would walk by close to the windows. Some blinds that opened from the top down so some light could still get in would be a great addition!
Our fireplace didn’t work and we were told that someone would look at it but it was not fixed.
We took bikes out for a day, which was such a great experience! Other than the bikes though, there an not many amenities in this hotel. We had to leave the room while it was being cleaned one rainy afternoon and there was no where to go to sit. A porch or sitting room would be perfect for this setting.
Overall we liked our week but this would not be our first choice for hotels in NOTL. Other hotels are much better and cost about the same per night.

Room tip: Avoid the ground floor rooms.

This cozy little Inn, right next to Peller Winery, same ownership, was a very nice stop in Niagara- on -the-lake.

Pictures of the front, lobby entrance and inside the lobby are attached.

We had a 2 queen room on the first floor, 106.
Pictures of the room & bath are attached.

We had breakfast in the Inn’s restaurant, pictures inside and looking out the back windows are attached.

The Inn dates back to about 1860.
