Great place for families, history buffs, or just to walk around.
The price is a little higher than I would've liked but it is a federal site, the government doesn't give much funding and staffing is expensive these days.

The buildings were interesting, very accurate.
The staff was friendly and helpful and really new what they were talking about (even though, as a previous reviewer mentioned, the were young they still were very knowledgable).

Again, as the previous reviewer mentioned, there is only one originial building and it is 100% original (the inside was fixed to look like it did during the war). It is the oldest military building in Ontario.
The musket demonstration was great, the gun firing was fun to see (although very loud), I really enjoyed seeing the Fife and Drummers perform. The drill squad was also very cool to see.

Everything in this fort is historically accurate, right down to their costuming.
I would recommend this to everybody. I'm not sure why the other reviewers were so harsh.
And the parking, it gets refunded when you enter the fort.

Just the drive from Niagara Falls through the immediate area was a treat. Fort George was a British fort from the War of 1812 and stands across, and somewhat downriver, from Fort Niagara (on the American side). The fort saw several battles and was taken by the Americans in 1813, before being recaptured 8 months later. There are a number of friendly, well-informed reenactors who portray life in the garrison. They also have a number of demonstrations like the musket fire and soldier drill. One young man, representing a drummer of the 41st Fife and Drum Corps, dressed my son in full uniform and kit. We not only learned quite a bit, but had some excellent photo opportunities! We also had the chance to eat cookies baked by ladies in the garrison kitchen. They told us the recipe was authentic to the time and we saw them bake them using period correct cookware. Very enjoyable and the river views from the redoubts are not to be missed!

My fiance and I visited this site during a recent trip to NOTL. Our entire trip was FANTASTIC (really...everything!) except for our decision to visit Ft. George.

It cost $23 for admission for both of us and we were handed a map and brochure for a self guided tour. It wasn't until were inside the fort that we realized nothing was authentic. There is one original structure to the fort, but it has been partially rebuilt as well (so it is barely original). The other FEW buildings that are standing are completely reconstructed. It doesn't seem like they used our $23 to maintain the buildings they REBUILT OR to staff this location with even a single tour guide.

Every building we entered had signs ALL over the walls to read on this self guided tour. Not being familiar with the area's history (although, I did recieve my degree in HISTORY), I was VERY confused as to what was going on. The wall plaques had no story line, vague information and just didn't make sense. Roaming from building to building was very confusing and very frustrating.

There were about 8 young people (all seemed to be under 25) dressed as British soldiers "practicing drills" around the fort. It just seemed cheesey and not very convincing at all. The girl at the entrance told us their would be a musket demonstration shortly. We either missed it or didn't care enough to stick around and see it.

It's sad to think that a historic site such as this did not live up to it's potential. It would have helped A LOT of there were tour guides who took you from place to place and EXPLAINED what you were looking at and its significance and history. I am sure we missed a lot while roaming around the fort, but we had no idea what we were even looking at.

The fort offered a ghost tour at night (which I was excited to do before we even arrived at NOTL) but we were so dissappointed with touring the fort during the day that we decided to pass on the ghost tour that evening.

The admission is average and conveniently located near Niagara-on-the-lake. I'm not sure why you need to pay for parking in the lot with a machine--inconvenient. Inside the fort, there are park attendants in period clothing. There was a musket firing demonstration. There was a presentation by an actress in period costume talking about the occupations of the fort. (Very biased against the American colonists) There was a person dressed in period clothing demonstrating cooking in the period kitchen. Not much in the way of interpretive signs, audio, or visual media. Nice views of the Niagara river. Small gift shop. No concession. Will take you a couple of hours.

We took our children to Fort George in Niagara on the lake. When we where planning our trip to Niagara Falls we didn't even consider this attraction for the kids. Much to our surprise our boys just loved it!!! And it is also much cheaper then alot of the regular Niagara Falls attractions.
