Miserable staff

Review of Oban Inn
1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 Jun 2024via mobile
This beautiful hotel was originally built in the early 1800 and rebuild in 1993 due to a fire. The property is just on a quieter part of Niagara on the Lake (NOTL) , within walking distance to the hustle and bustle of NOTL. For what you pay ($385 plus tax) , the a taff was not overly friendly. In fact a little coolish for my liking for such a nice place. Asked for a coffee and the bartender gave me the impression I was interfering with their time. Our friends were having a coffee when we got there and asked for one as well
When I checked in the staff was very quick and adamant, in a very rude fashion, that breakfast was not included. Caught me off guard. Donna, the staff that checked us in, Ignored us and took the person behind us first even though the person behind us told them we were first in line. The awareness of hospitality isn’t there. It is sad that such a lovely hotel has rudeness ingrained in the personality of the people who work there

Lovely stay at the Oban Inn. Front desk and service staff excellent. Bedding and beds excellent. Food delicious.
Disappointed that the pool and hot tub were not available even though they are listed as amenities and there is even a photograph of the pool area in the elevator. After cycling and playing golf we would have loved being able to enjoy pool and hot tub. Otherwise, a lovely stay!

It’s getting harder for me to think that this site is a fit for me anymore….. Despite the poor reviews I have been seeing….So I am trying to write a honest review with details so you know what I love in a hotel which basically is a welcoming, clean hotel with soft beds and some attention to the little things. I like to feel higher quality. This hotel is wonderful. Yes, it is very old but it is very clean and has so much character. It did not feel or smell old to me at all. The staff here are wonderful. Very rarely these days do I visit a hotel and every single staff member is friendly, and seem so sincerely happy that you are there. They are even happier to help with anything and they are quick to. Hazel especially went above and beyond helping either anything we needed. I had breakfast at the restaurant which I found was also great. The first day I had their traditional breakfast and it was delicious. The coffee in the entire hotel is delicious. I was on a conference. The second day I had pancakes. They were not light and fluffy. The batter was a bit rubbery and bland but with lots of syrup its was good. I stayed in room 19. It was spacious, very comfortable and clean. It had a mini fridge that worked very well. Nice and cold water for a change but the fridge was a bit noisy when the fan came on. I am a light sleeper nowadays so I found the rooms a bit crickety with sounds. I seen some of my colleague’s rooms and some were smaller but all just as nice. Although coincidently a few of us didn’t sleep well but it was the older people, and I know I am now not the greatest sleeper in hotels unless I stay at a Marriott with their soft beds and quiet. They provide bathrobes, liquid hand soap (my favourite), body wash, shampoo, conditioner and a shower cap. Also they provided water at no charge. All high quality toiletries and I am very fussy with products. No body lotion. The location is fabulous too. I have stayed at all the Vintage properties in the area. I will never stay at any of them again after staying here. Although, the spa was closed but looked very small, but nice. Also, I did not see their outdoor pool area. It is off season at the hotel so the services like spa, lunch or dinner were not open Mon- Wed the days that I was there, I do not think. We ordered in lunch both days and Hazel was quick to offer to pick it up and allow up to use the restaurant area. This was even more perfect if you’re on a work conference because hotel food sometimes gets boring.

This was our first visit to The Oban Inn. Our two day winter get away at The Oban Inn was everything we hoped for -- and far more. From the moment we stepped into The Oban we felt at home. There is a serenity and a warmth to the Inn that is hard to define. You have to experience it. Our room with the sunroom and outdoor balcony was an oasis. Thanks to Angela who confirmed our reservation and suggested this room for us. Dinner and breakfasts were excellent. Jimmy, our waiter at dinner, was friendly and efficient. Rebecca, our waitress at breakfast was amazing and we were in awe of her patience with a difficult customer. Rebecca was friendly and remembered our preferences. Both Jimmy and Rebecca were exceptional. We will be back and look forward to our next stay at The Oban Inn.

Room tip: For best value check out the package offers. The onsite restaurant is excellent for breakfast and dinner dining.

Location and room very nice and so was the staff. On site restaurant somewhat pricy and limited choices. I.e. no bread was offered. It didn’t help there was no heat in the dining room. Room was ok but hallways very cold. Still deciding if we would return

The rooms are spacious and clean but unfortunately I didn’t get a good night sleep. There was some noise that kept me awake and then light filtered through the shutters. I guess a couple of curtains are needed. The fridge in the room also didn’t help as it kept humming.

Room tip: The breakfast was extents good 😊
