A trip back in time

Review of Prince of Wales
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 Aug 2024via mobile
When entering the Prince of Wales you step back in time, marveling at classic British colonial architecture that firmly complements the bespoke aura of Niagara-on-the-Lake. The hotel splits in to various sections (tea rooms, dining room and bar), which all have a unique style. The premises are clean, well-presented and staff are very attentive.

The rooms continue the theme the hotel seeks to impose. We were very satisfied with the quality of linens and the overall structure. Our only note to management would be the somewhat noisy air conditioners. We treated these as part of the « vintage » experience, yet some travelers may find them a nuisance.

Best bit: although we did not dine at the hotel we did treat ourselves to the breakfast. This was arguably the best breakfast experience we had in Canada, from the attitude of staff to the quality of products on offer. We invite future guests to give it a try.

Overall: would choose again for a stay in the area.

We popped in for lunch and was very glad we did. The hotel is great to wander around and has beautiful period furnishings. Fabulous stained glass! The meal was the best we had while staying in Toronto. Their Asian take on Poutine was original and very tasty.

The premium room is spacious and well-appointed, featuring a fridge, hot water maker, and Nespresso machine. Additional coffee and water can be requested. The staff is amiable and accommodating. The location is ideal for those who enjoy being in the heart of the action. It is situated in downtown Niagara-On-The-Lake, only steps from restaurants, pubs, shopping, and more. A short three-block stroll will take you to the waterfront. Head to the waterfront public golf course and enjoy a cocktail overlooking the Niagara River. This is a great place to relax and unwind. I strongly recommend an early morning and after-dinner stroll on Picton Street (without the crowds). There are other Vintage-branded hotels in the area. I have stayed at Queens Landing which is more updated and it costs more per night. However, when comparing the friendliness of the staff, amenities, and proximity to the main hub of Niagara-On-The-Lake, the Prince of Wales is by far the best choice.

This is a beautiful, comfortable hotel with good service, nice rooms and easy parking.

Located in the heart of town, it is easy to walk to restaurants and attractions from the hotel. There are two restaurants and a tea room located on site; we did not eat there but had a drink at their Churchill Lounge on Sunday night; a wonderful piano player was playing inside so we sat and listened for a bit and then finished our drinks outside enjoying the lovely weather.

Our room was nice and pretty, the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was large. There was a fireplace in the bedroom and a heated towel rack in the bathroom which would be so nice if staying here in the winter. The water pressure and temperature was fine in the sink and shower. There is a small refrigerator in the bedroom.

We didn't use the pool but sat in the indoor pool area for a few minutes; it is a sauna room so was too hot to stay long but the pool and hot tub water were spotless and if that is your thing I would recommend using it (the pool water temperature - based on sticking my hand in it - was refreshing).

The only thing I would do differently is, if coming back in the summer, book a room that has a patio as the weather was perfet and ideal for sitting out with a drink or book in hand.

The Prince of Wales was a wonderful place to stay. With a friendly atmosphere and well-appointed surroundings, we had a relaxing stay. The location was excellent, with easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, coffee shops and the lake. The room was lovely, with sweet touches including a rose on our bed, chocolates, and oranges. We strongly recommend!

Exceptional hospitality in this lovely, quaint hotel. Very convenient to all the village has to offer and beautiful inside and out. Loved the manicured flower beds. All staff were friendly and eager to please. Fabulous restaurant (Nobles) onsite. Highly recommend the dinner package for guests. Can't wait for our next visit!
