Basic Traditional 'Mom & Pop' Motel

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Apr 2019
Located a long walk but a short drive along the Parkway, Crystal Inn is located in the old part of Niagara Falls across the road from the edge of the gorge near the former international road and railway Suspension Bridge and the railway station. In early March, everything in Niagara Falls is quiet with relatively few tourists around. As a result, hotel and motel prices are cheap and the CAN$35 that we were charged for a room at the Crystal Inn is hard to beat. A city bus service to the falls passes the entrance to the motel and stops nearby.

The room that we had was a traditional motel room similar to many that I've stayed in over the last 50 years! Basic but comfortable. Everything worked as it should. Coffee maker and supplies included. No included breakfast or on site restaurant... but there are plenty of eateries of all kinds nearby. The office was closed when we arrived late afternoon and we were directed to checkin at another motel just down the road. This we did with no difficulty. Similarly in the morning or early (7:30am) checkout was done simply by leaving the key in the unit as the office didn't open till sometime later.

Note that you can only use the nearby bridge to and from the USA if you have a NEXUS pass. Otherwise you have to use the Queenstown-Levistown or Rainbow bridges.

All in all, a good value motel and the lowest rate that we had in a two week plus vacation in Ontario and the Northeast USA staying at similar accommodations. We would stay at the Crystal Inn in the future should we visit Niagara Falls again.

This hotel is pretty basic and in need of updating. The rooms were clean and kept us warm since it was below freezing at night when we stayed. There is no breakfast, so you will need to find a place to eat breakfast. You do get free internet and free parking. It was a little noisy and I could hear a lot of traffic from the street at night. Close enough to the Falls. We had a rental car so there was no problem. The price was pretty good, but I would probably stay at a different place next time.

Thank you for taking time to review our motel.....we are in one of the most quietest areas with the least traffic.......Being a MOTEL....we do not service breakfast however 1 block away is a great diner that serves breakfast with prices starting at 5.75.....
Our motel is currently under new management and looking forward to many upgrades coming this spring.

We hope you find other suitable accommodations on your next visit to Niagara.

We stayed here for 2 nights as a quick visit to see the falls. Rooms are pretty basic and could probably do with some modernising but they are very conveniently positioned to be able to walk to the falls. We arrived very late at night and they were very accommodating. Also we misplaced one of the room keys and they were very understanding. I think with a little overhaul of the rooms this place could be a gem.

This is the kind of motel I remember from road trips with my family: a budget motel that was a bit old fashioned and very nostalgic. The great thing about it was that the room I had was completely refreshed, new paint, carpet, bed etc. Everything worked and was clean and best of all quiet. (including the air conditioning unit). Stayed two nights and had great sleeps. The staff was pleasant, helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.

We stayed here over the long weekend and we had a good experience! Clearly dated but quite neat and clean nonetheless. We had a minor issue with the bedding in the room upon arrival but as soon as we brought it to the attention of the staff the owner herself immediately came to rectify it and was very, very kind. Unfortunately, if internet is something you require I might reconsider staying here as the wifi did not work at all throughout the entirety of our stay. We did bring it to the attention of the staff and they did what they could to try and fix it but it just didn’t work out. Apparently it works better on the opposite side of the inn as there are two different routers, but I’m not sure how true that is.

It’s in a great location! A bit too far to walk to the falls/Clifton Hill unless you’re more ambitious than we are, but there is a WEGO stop just feet away that you can take advantage of! There’s also a little tourist area right next door (souvenir shop, food court, etc.), an iHOP on the other side, and the White Water Walk is just a moment away as well. The parking at the inn is also free, which was a huge plus for us!

I feel as though the room was a bit more expensive than usual, which is understandable given that it’s the long weekend, but for what we paid we cannot complain - since it’s normally cheaper it’d be an even better deal! We would likely consider staying here once again if we were to go back to Niagara. If you’re looking for modern, 5-star quality I wouldn’t suggest it, but if you’re just looking for a clean, quiet place to rest your head after a day of exploring you can’t go wrong.

So it's like 4-5 km from the falls. Unless you have a car, it can be a difficult sometimes. Of course you can use WEGO which stops just at front of the hotel, but then WEGO was working only till 5 PM when I went (winter season) so I had to take a long walk at night while returning. You can buy the WEGO pass, but if you buy wonder pass from falls it includes WEGO and it's cheaper. Rooms and all was fine. But if you are going to use public transport, better book some place in Lundy's Lane area. WEGO goes there till 10 PM.
