Colleagues and I used the ALT for an all day business meeting. We chose the hotel only because we thought it would be convenient: people were coming from Calgary, Montreal, etc. and they could just get off the plane, walk onto the SkyTrain and be in their rooms minutes after landing.

I was not expecting much after looking at the website, but I was very pleasantly surprised when I arrived by car. Parking was a snap. Checkin was quick and flawless. The room was very high-tech and austere but perfectly functional for my purposes and very clean. We dined at the Sheraton, which is about 5 minutes away on the SkyTrain.

The meeting room was perfectly appointed. Again, austere, no-nonsense; all the electronics worked perfectly the first time and there was a tech there to make sure they did. Lunch was served by hotel staff and the food was first rate.

There is a buffet/bar arrangement on the first floor. I did not eat there but I had a drink and the surroundings were very pleasant.

So I would give this unique hotel 5/5 for business purposes. You could spend five times as much in a downtown hotel and be less satisfied. Also, you would have to incur the inconvenience and cost of getting downtown.

Of course, if you are visiting Toronto to take in the downtown sights, you may want to think again before staying at the airport. You could take the UP Express downtown, again by walking onto the little SkyTrain and connecting, but all of this would use up tourist time.

I would also compliment the staff, who were very efficient and personable.

Room tip: All rooms are about the same; I liked being on a corner with two windows (an "02").

This is our second time staying at the ALT hotel, but our first review. We find this hotel to be a nice halfway point for us after a long day of flying. Beds are very comfortable, reasonably priced, and easy to get to from the airport, via train. The staff are great and the hotel is very unique as far as design goes. Rooms are spacious with a beautiful walk in shower. The only downside to the hotel is it is not equipped with a restaurant, however after asking the front desk they recommended a place that did delivery to the hotel. The bar/lounge is quite spacious as well, and the drinks were very pleasant after a long day of flying. The only things that would be nice in the room would be bottled water for the coffee maker, and a fridge would be a great asset. Overall for the price and location this is a great place to spend the night.

Dear BMSB,

Thank you for taking the time to review us. I am glad to hear that you found our beds comfortable and the bar/lounge area spacious. We are indeed conveniently located a few minutes train ride from the terminal. We do not have a full service restaurant but our Grab and Go is open 24/7 and offers a variety of meals and we also have a list of restaurants in the area that deliver to the hotel. I will definitely look into your suggestion about a fridge in the room. Once again thank you for your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back.

Best

Booked through Hotwire. Was nervous when I didn't get one of the traditional names, but Alt is more well known in Canada. Was very modern decor. Needed the key to access the lights, used to save electricity. Charged $15 per night for parking which I wasn't expecting, but otherwise the price was very reasonable.
