If you need a suite in Vancouver, you can't go wrong here. The price is definitely right. The suites are on the Spartan side, but that is because they mostly serve students as residences during the academic year. The kitchenettes are well-equipped, the bathrooms are clean and modern, and the location is quiet. The AC is on the noisy side, but the Vancouver climate is such that you probably won't need to use it at night. For $155 a night, with breakfast part of the deal -- at least until they closed the cafeteria in the SUB for renovations -- the Gage residences are hard to beat. Getting into town using the bus is reasonably easy, but it's better to have a car, since UBC is at the western edge of the city.

These fully furnished apartments are for mature student housing in the school year, but in the summer they are rented out to travelers and conference attendees. Our suite was very well maintained and clean, much better than you would expect from a student residence. The kitchen was fully equipped (can opener, tea pot...) and our son said the fold-out bed was "fine." Our bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was free in the cafeteria across the street, and offered more variety than most free hotel breakfasts. Parking was free for guests. Amenities like the pool and fitness centers of the university were available to guests for a low usage fee. Proximity to all the great things to do on campus and in that area of the city couldn't be better. There is no room service, but the people manning the front desk were all very polite and helpful every time we interacted with them over four days.

There were two drawbacks. First, the free wifi didn't stay connected for long, and to reconnect I had to go through the terms and conditions page and re-enter my email address each time. Second, there was no decoration on the utterly plain white walls.

Overall, the room is simple, but if you are not looking for luxury it's perfect.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for the final 2 nights of our 2 week trip to Vancouver. We found it simple to find and easy to check in thanks to the very friendly and efficient front desk staff. The apartment itself was very clean, spacious and had everything you needed, from a coffee machine to a iron and ironing board. Also, we were able to connect to wifi in our room which was a bonus.
Although UBC appears quite far our from Downtown Vancouver, the bus links are really really good, run regularly and only takes about 30 minutes to get into central downtown. Be aware that for an adult the bus fare is $2.75 each and you need to have it in CHANGE, they don't accept notes!
All in all a very good experience! Would 100% recommend!

You have to realize that these studio suites are indeed student residences . This is not a four star hotel but it is functional , clean and has pretty much what you need for your stay . It can be a bit noisy leith doors slamming , people in the hallway etc

It is a long way from the city so don't expect to be in the middle of things and driving around Vancouver isn't easy . I lived here for many years so it didn't bother me but it would if I was visiting for the first time .

You are right on the campus of UBC which has to be one of the most beautiful in the world . It's big , it's busy and it's spotlessly clean .

Bed was clean and comfy , nice little kitchen area and bathroom with shower BD lots of storage .

I recently stayed at the Gage Residences with my two boys. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly and professional staff. The lobby was large and inviting. The suites are ideal for families and all amenities are included, except parking which is very reasonable. The suites were very clean and modern. I highly recommend the Gage Residence as a great alternative to the more high priced hotels downtown. The bus loop nearby takes you through out the metro Vancouver area within 20 minutes. I will definitely stay here again. Well done.
