“A true getaway. A beautiful escape. Great people.”

The whole Cassiar Cannery experience was truly wonderful. The scenery is beautiful, the people are genuine, the accommodations are as comfortable (or more so!) as being at home, but even nicer and WAY less work!

Forested coastal terrain. It. Is. Gorgeous!! The road to Cassiar is paved. Its rustic though, so you have to drive leisurely so as to not bump too much on the frost heaves.

The Cassiar grounds are fun to explore. Once you enter through the "golden gate" you feel like you just got home. The owners made sure the house was ready and unlocked for us before we arrived. There were fresh flowers on the table and a little individual flower in an old bottle or little vase in every room. The owner obviously loves growing things, so there are beautiful flowers growing on the deck and in flower boxes and hanging baskets in various places on the property - even in September! There is beautiful water front to look at and to mess around in on low tide (bring rubber boots). The Sockeye House, which we stayed in, has a little tide chart on the bookshelf, along with games and books and binoculars to see what's going on in nature outside!
The sweet ladies, Betty and Veronica (the husky/malamute? dogs) provide entertainment as well as an occasional soulful wolf-howl. Very well behaved dogs who keep to themselves.

Sitting in the beautifully furnished living room (Sockeye House) you can look out the large window and out the sliding glass doors to the water. So peaceful. But, as comfy as it is, don't spend all your time inside...open those doors and go out onto the large deck where you can sit in the deck chairs and breathe in the fresh fresh fresh air, observe the beautiful sky, hear the sounds of the water, and even cook your dinner on the BBQ (want fresh fish?? Ask Justine and Mark (owners) to hook you up with Lindsay, he'll arrange to take you out on his fishing boat!)
Speaking of cooking dinner...the kitchen is fully outfitted with everything you'd need. All the pots, pans, baking trays, utensils, serving bowls and platters, dishes, coffee maker, bagel/bread toaster, even a blender. Full sized fridge/freezer and stove. We cooked full meals from breakfasts to a huge dinner.
The bathroom has shampoo, conditioner, soap. I even found some epsom salts for a bath soak, which made me happy as I was sore from a long hike around beautiful Butze Rapids Park just a short bit down the highway toward Prince Rupert.
The water comes from the creek...fresh and healthy...and as REAL water does, it can have some color to it. I drank it and LOVED it, but there was also a water dispenser for use.
The beds are SUPER COMFY!!! And just like baby bear said; they were not too hard, not too soft....just riiiiight! They have deluxe linens too. Down comforter with a perfect weight and feel, with just the right warmth. I was not too hot or too cold. The pillows (4 of them on the bed) were just right too. I slept like a rock every night!

There is so much to do and see, but the place also lends itself to some serious downtime. Justine and Mark (owners) are very gracious and pay careful attention to the diverse needs of the guests. There were some other guests staying at one of the other houses who seldom peeked out from their cabin, and the owners were very respectful of the fact that they were hibernating and needed solitude. We were there for a full experience and Justine and Mark were very social and friendly. Smart and helpful people. Very genuine! (I had messaged them before arrival and mentioned getting some ice for my smoothies and when I got there they had put full ice trays into the freezer for me! Several times they mentioned that if we needed anything we just needed to ask (didn't need a thing).)

There is an old fish cannery museum just up the road that is a great place to stop for a couple of hours to learn about the history and take beautiful pictures. They have restored the cannery and the managers office and the old store and the cafeteria (where you can actually eat) and all the oldtime items and furniture are set up in each building as though it were actually back in that time. They have a little gift shop with local made items. ($12 for adults, kids under 5 free...totally worth it and it goes to the cost of restoring things. They are a fabulous work in progress)

This is an amazing getaway! The owners are seriously doing it right with their restoration of an historic place! They are NAILING THIS!
I am already making plans for a family trip with my husband and two kids....and after that...a Girl's Getaway with my friends! (The house we stayed at can sleep 6).
I will DEFINITELY go again!

“Wonderful and unique place to stay”
Reviewed 20 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We had a great night at Cassiar Cannery. Justine and Mark (owner/operators) were really friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the area. Our cabin was clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated with a lot of wood, very quiet, and had a full kitchen. But the best part is the location. The cabins are situated on a quiet and serene inlet, so you can sit on the back deck of the cabin and take in the amazing view. Plus, the property is an historic cannery that Justine and Mark are actively preserving. This adds a really great charm to the whole place, making this a very interesting place to stay. We highly recommend Cassiar Cannery -- it is well worth staying here if you are in the area, and is one of those places that you won't soon forget.

“Eagles, seals and history”
Reviewed 7 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Amazing and relaxing. We saw the listing in the Prince Rupert visitor guide and took a chance on a last minute vacancy. Amazing beautifully restored cabins so close to the water it laps underneath at high tide. We sat in the huge deck and watched the tides go in and out while Eagles flew all around us and seals popped up in the inlet. Super comfortable beds and all the kitchen comforts so we could make a fantastic meal of crab and salmon. Our hosts were delightful ...the right mix of hosting and letting us enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We wanted to stay longer and will be back.

“A beautiful, must see gem just off the beaten path”
Reviewed 14 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We had an amazing two week stay at Cassiar during our fishing trip this year. Mark and Justine are amazing hosts who will strive to assist in making your stay as memorable as possible. We stayed in the Coho House (1 bdrm) and enjoyed many nights relaxing on the deck watching sunset and water after a day of fishing. Very quiet and scenic property! Can’t wait to visit again next July!

The cannery is at the “end of the road” and is very secure, there is a gate at the entrance and two “guard” dogs (that are very friendly but just “look and sound mean”). The Rail Road goes through the property and we have been told that the passenger train can accommodate pickup/drop offs at the cannery. You can walk along the road and pick all sorts of berries, there are also some water falls on the sides of the roads that you can see if you look.

The cabins are very unique, and the beds are very comfortable. Some of the furnisher is made by hand from reclaimed wood that floats up the skeena river.

Liked best: hospitality, hosts, relaxing, quiet, scenic stay.
Liked least: Road entering is a little bumpy - no fault of the owners - just have to take slow if towing boats. Very nice that it is at the end of the highway though!
