The Mayan palace is the older of the two Mayan resorts. As we chose not to attend a timeshare presentation we did not receive a premium room apart from the room being tired and on the ground floor it was spacious (two bedroom suite with living room and small kitchen) and comfortable. The grounds were well maintained and the pool one of the cleanest we have experienced. No swim goggles required to do laps.
The beach was nice for long walks and the waters of the Sea of Cortez spectacularly clear.
Restaurants, bar and the fun club staff were all very enjoyable.

Everything abut the facility was excellent, a lot better than we expected. Pools were in top shape and tended all day every day. Gardens were tended equally well and one of the best features of the resort. The gym was well equiped and in good shape. Breakfast buffet was better than any I have ever had on a cruise.
The only negative to the vacation was the unexpected but required "tour". We came by RCI and expected the tour to be of the facilities of the resort. The tour was a very high pressure time share sales presentation. Much as we would like to be owners we could not afford what they offered and are still paying on the timeshare we already own. The first person was very nice. Once we convinced him that we were not buying he said OK and sent for the person that would get us our gift. It turned out to be a high pressure salesman, same thing happened again and after 4 hours we had been exposed to 4 sales people and my wife was in tears.
We will go back as long as we do not have to do another tour.

Room Tip: One bedroom had a well appointed kitchen. We loved the ocean view and first floor room had easy access to everything.

We came not expecting a good experience because of negative reviews on-line. Our stay was fabulous but then our needs were simple, walking the beach, lazy river, walking the beach, resting under the canopies, and walking the beach looking for shells. . All of the staff were friendly & gracious because we were friendly to them. Karen in the Spa gave me one of the best massages I’ve ever had. We did attend the presentation at the Mayan but true to their word, after our free breakfast buffet (very tasty) it only lasted 1 hour. We got passes to the Grand Mayan & discounts. All the food on property was very good. The wait staff were very attentive both by the pool & on the beach & we sampled different drinks available. We brought cereal along & our own refrigerator so did not eat more than 2 meals so cost was down. One word though is BUG SPRAY. Be sure to bring it for the mosquitos which they can’t control.

We wanted to be in a place where we could just focus on our relationship and reconnect with each other after being together 17 year. This was perfect! We walked the beach for hours, worked out daily in the gym at the spa, noon- 6pm daily had great bar staff service providing non-stop drinks to us right in the hot tub. Food at all restaurants was good too.

Room Tip: Ocean view was great, see sunrise daily off left side of balcony & sunset off the right.

Great Beach, food and service. I had great view of ocean.Pool area is beautiful and very relaxing. Rooms looked good, but functionally were no more than average. Sales staff lies and are hi pressure, be carefully.
