“Extremely comfortable cottage”
Reviewed 29 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We've just had a week staying at Rowan Cottage, which is deceptively spacious, beautifully furnished and kitted out and spotlessly clean. Our midsummer week was notable for days of grey, wet and windy weather so we were glad to have such a cosy and comfortable base. The bright conservatory overlooks an idyllic little garden, the kitchen has everything you could possibly need, and the bedrooms are bright and pretty. A lovely place from which to explore the Black Isle. We recommend the dolphin watching boat trip from Avoch, walks from the house along the beach in both directions and the Fairy Glen. Also Crofters Bistro, the museum and the Cromarty Bakery. We'd love to stay here again sometime.

This is a great place with a well kitted out kitchen and very comfortable furnishings. I stayed here with my 79 year old mum who is not very fit at the moment. She was very comfortable and enjoyed her stay too. The garden is lovely. A great base to see Rosemarkie and the surrounding area.

Liked best: The view of the garden during meals.
Liked least: A couple of extra hand towels in the bathrooms would be great.

“exceeded our expecations”
Reviewed 23 February 2015 for a stay in February 2015

Cottage was superb. Would have
been nice to know that there was no where in Rosemarkie to eat due to closures. Area was fab. Great for walks. Car needed to enjoy the Black Isle. Great shopping in Inverness. Well worth another visit. Too much to do in one stay.

“Cosy and comfortable haven in an icy, crisp January 2015”
Reviewed 25 January 2015 for a stay in January 2015

Staying a week on the Black Isle is becoming a regular out-of-season week in January for us. Last year (2014) we stayed same time same month in a lovely bungalow near Cromarty. This year (2015) the lure of Rosemarkie Beach pulled on the Black Isle's southern coastline and thus we found Rowan Cottage, at short notice, hoping that in this quiet, short, darkened days time-of-year up here, vacancies would be available and that holiday home owners would rent properties.

We have lived on Scotland's NW Coast for 27 years and know whilst the west endures wet, wet, wet windy times in winter The Black Isle - just three hours away fairs much better. So it was, after a week at home of tremendous storms, often hurricane force gales and dark wild days with electricity cuts etc etc, we drove the three hours across Scotland through snow and eintry showers to the calm, crisp, but blue- sky icy Black Isle.

Eureka, as last year there, a glorious but cold week in this cosy comfortable cottage with Brandy our 2 year old Irish Terrier. Well- appointed, as previous reports confirm and all the luxuries a two- bathroom extended cottage can provide. That the (public) car park at the rear of Rowan Cottage was an ice-skating- rink, all week didn't in any way spoil our time here. Just outside the cottage doors are temptations to suit all tastes. We enjoyed many glorious walks along the Rosemarkie Beach in both easterly and westerly (Chanonry Point) directions; the lovely river and burn walk up to and from the Fairy Pools; two trips to Inverness, and a day out to Dornoch, Brora and Helmsdale (walking in the empty icy bracing grounds of Dunrobin Castle enroute) made for a good week and always this cosy cottage to return to. Not a drip of rain all week, but temperatures never above zero for long!

We didn't meet the owner but from comments in the visitor book within the cottage many guests return again and again here. We can see why they do.

The garden pond in the small garden never thawed, we broke the ice for the birds to drink......

This cottage is fully booked it seems from Late April to October and we can see why, long summer days, and all local attractions and restaurants would be open allowing this cottage to shine even brighter. We do not expect folk visiting these locations in winter, when tourists are the exception rather than the norm, mind that, and like us, when a comfortable clean warm well equipped haven like Rowan Cottage is at day's end what more could be asked? Highly recommended...
