From the moment we arrived at Casa Tres Cervesas, we were enchanted – by the luxuriousness of the rooms, the beauty of the grounds, the graciousness of the staff, and the food! Oh, the food! We arrived after 9:00 PM and were surprised with a beautiful plate of meats and cheeses, guacamole and a sensational chicken soup. The perfect meal for tired and hungry travelers. Chef Aidee Prado cooked up delicious dishes every morning with her own wonderfully complex salsas and moles. One night she grilled up a variety of meats, cactus and cheeses for a fantastic traditional dinner of molcajete mixto. Delicioso! We were daily entertained and informed by concierge George Herter, who has encyclopedic knowledge of both local history and local mescal bars. And concierge Jonathan Tinco provided excellent suggestions for restaurants and activities. We loved everything he recommended. Finally, sipping a house-made margarita at sunset on the casa’s rooftop patio over looking the town of San Miguel is an unforgettable experience. You can’t go wrong staying here. We were just 4 guests on this trip but the property can handle up to 14 guests and it is the perfect place for a business meeting, a family gathering or retreat. The Yoga room and massage area next to the gorgeous pool and hot water Spa is unbeatable. This is absolutely the spot for our next family reunion location.
First and foremost, my fiancé and I had no idea what to expect... I had looked at pictures online and they looked beautiful, but still wasn't completely sure... Um, the pictures are what you get. Stunning! The compound is luxurious while also feeling homey. The layout of the space is perfect for a group of friends or a family. The staff is A+ You cannot beat the price either! Where can you get a place for 14-16 people per night at this price? Add the chef - SO WORTH IT! She is amazing. Iday (sp?) cooked us breakfast every morning and left delicious tortas for lunch. Dinner was so juicy and fresh... We all were freaking out about the food quality. Jonathan and George were available for anything and everything we wanted to do. The staff speaks very, very good English so there is no worry there either.
Location, location, location... WOW! We didn't need a car at all. DO NOT GET A CAR. The staff will arrange to have a car or vans pick you up. It is worth it. Take taxis or vans wherever you want to go. We did the following activities (I suggest ALL of them): Balloon ride, ATV rides, metal working class and hot springs with massages. YES to all! Everything was very reasonably priced for Americans or Europeans.
Now, let's talk about quality of life and food... Foodies are more than welcome in San Miguel Allende! You will be blown away if you are a gastronome. Every restaurant was better than the next. Our group at together at night almost every evening and George or Jonathan would be sure that our reservation was made and if we were running late, they would let the restaurant know. Eat, for sure, at Bovine, Atrio and 1810 Trazo (this may have been my favorite. The steak vermacilli was unbelievable). The desserts were phenomenal. Wine selections were terrific as well. The Lunde Cab/Blend was amazing and very well priced. Tasted like a $40-50 bottle of CA wine. Truly wonderful.
Walk score 100+. The city is called "The City of Doors" because there aren't really any yards. Behind each door (which are usually art in and of themselves) is a special and surprising treat. Stores, art galleries, eateries, clothing shops, jewelry stores, spas, etc. You could walk in San Miguel for months on end just peering inside of each door and you could never discover all there is to see.
We stayed in the Moroccan Room and it was very, very special! Two fireplaces, bathtub and shower... Double sinks... tucked away from the rest of the Casa upstairs... Truly lovely. That said, there are no bad rooms! We looked at all of them and said, "Ooooo - look at this room. Oh, I like this room too..." All of them are so well decorated with special touches. The owner/designer of the place put his heart into each and every detail. You feel it in the art, the furniture, the views from the rooftop space, the staff and every single light fixture.
For those of you who must connect to the outside world... The internet works very, very well. There are DVD players and flat screen TVs, a game/screening room and banks for pulling pesos everywhere.
This was my second stay at Casa Tres Cervezas and both times I was truly impressed by its beauty, comfort, serenity and hospitality. Their front doorstep is literally a short walk away to the middle of San Miguel de Allende's historical downtown district. The staff arranged wonderful adventures like: four-wheeling, the scenic Botanical Gardens, relaxing hot springs and fun shopping at the local flea market. Every morning we were served freshly-squeezed juices, coffee and breakfast in the lovely kitchen area. The rooftop view at sunset is spectacular and you have the choice of many unique guest quarters. I highly recommend making Casa Tres Cervezas your place to stay in this American-friendly Mexican location. I cannot wait to visit again! PS...it's the perfect location for a destination wedding!!!
This place is simply devine! Gorgeous with lovely big rooms fully appointed and amazing gardens, private and public outdoor relax areas, beautiful fountains and a drop dead swimming pool. Imagine a cross between Mexican and Balinese - this is it and all right in the middle of an utterly delightful medieval hill top village steeped in fascinating history, with cobble stone streets and superb old churches. You will be surrounded by friendly locals and not drowned by tourists - this place being the dead opposite of the Mexican beach experience!
Prepare to be in awe by the beauty of San Miguel and the house you will stay in! This house has been put together with such loving care that we had as much fun staying in as we did going out. The staff was completely amazing, taking care of our every need and making sure our stay was more than just memorable.
