“LETTUCE PRAISE THE SAINTS”

The cottage is a tranquil joy, bounded on the one side by God’s Wonderful Railway, albeit that Mr George Jackson Churchward’s eponymous locomotives no longer steam by and surrounded by growing salad stuff. Immaculately presented and kept there is nothing lacking for a perfect stay, unless you are of the Washing Up Brush Persuasion. If so, bring your own!

The ostensible purpose of our visit was a small gathering with family members who live in the area to celebrate Bund cheating the Grim Reaper to reach his Allotted Span, about which Fenella, the owner, could not have been more accommodating nor have offered more help. However, we also managed three good walks, dinner at the nearby Seven Stars just a stagger away (see separate review) and a good catch up breakfast with more family at the Divine Café in Cherhill (further review).

If spared to return it would be to walk. Our highlight was to walk up past the local Garden Centre and along to the Kennet and Avon Canal at Lady’s Bridge via the Vale of Pewsey Bridleway. From there we went along the towpath to the Barge Inn at Honeystreet and paused for a couple of cleansing ales! After walking back along the towpath we turned off, went past Woodborough Church and returned to the cottage. Just the ticket for a pair of reasonably fit Pensioners!

“A Great Place To Stay”

It was a sponsored walk that my wife & I were doing on 7 September that brought us to this part of the world. We decided to take a cottage in Wiltshire for the week to recover after our Stonehenge to Avebury trek, and what a good choice it was. Set in a secluded spot on the edge of woodland, it was a great location for discovering the area. We received a very warm welcome from Fenella, the owner, and it was obvious that the offer to call her if there was any problem was genuine (in fact, one very minor thing did occur, and was dealt with immediately). The wine and cake on arrival was a really nice (and welcome) touch. The open plan kitchen / living / dining area is well laid out and the bedroom was a good size and the bed comfortable. Everywhere was clean and everything worked. There is plenty of useful information at the cottage, including details of walks that you can do from the front door (a walker-friendly farm is nearby). Also within 15 minutes' walk is a great pub, the Seven Stars at Bottlesford. Hopefully not our last visit to All Saints Cottage...
