We always dreamed of a wedding on the beach with our bare feet in the sand and turquoise water behind us. Where all our friends and family could be gathered together for more than just one night and one party. At Cabanas La Luna our dreams came true last month and we have a hard time snapping out of it. It was a fairy tale, like a picture magazine, felt almost unreal at times. We had never been to this hotel when we settled on the location for our wedding but La Luna was even more beautiful than any pictures and videos we had seen. We literally did not wear shoes for our entire stay. Every cabana is unique and gorgeous! The staff is beyond friendly. We travelled with 14 kids in total and La Luna was perfect for children in that they felt so free (while safe) and ran between cabanas, the pool and the beachfront. We rented out the entire resort with 10 cabanas for 4 days and it was the best choice we could have made, so special to share this paradise privately with our loved ones.

If you’re traveling as a larger party and have children I would definitely try to include the villa in the reservation. Even if it does not have ocean view it is the only place where you have a refrigerator, can stack up on snack items and drinks and even cook on stovetop and oven. It adds up to have to buy lunch for the kids every day and at the villa it was easy to just make lunches and snacks. Also the only way to have a pool (which at least our kids enjoyed a lot) is if you book the villa. (The pool water was very cold however which might be because it is in the shade most of the time). The pool deck is spacious and gorgeous, much larger than it looks on pictures! We spent every late night at the villa where almost all our guests could gather after a good day.

I really could not pick a favorite cabana if I had to, they are all so unique and depending on your size party they suit differently. Coconut Grove and Captain's Dale have the best ocean views but also get windy at night if you travel certain seasons. The garden suite and Villa Zanzibar are very private and offer shade and shelter. There are a lot of mosquitos because of the abundance of greens but the resort give you burners, I suggest you use them or you will get eaten alive! I was not prepared for the reactions many of us had to the mosquitos.

Planning a wedding from a distance is hard and frustrating many times and without the hotel manager Idoya Calomar I probably would have given up. She really is the reason that we picked La Luna because of her prompt, friendly and professional responses. She always answered patiently to my questions and responded on the very same day (if you're shopping around for places in Tulum you will know that is not standard - it was common to wait weeks for an answer). Even if La Luna is by no mean an inexpensive place to get married Idoya tried to work with me in finding solutions to fit our budget. You can certainly organize a destination wedding somewhere else much cheaper but at the many larger all-inclusive resorts I would have felt like a number as they push you through the machinery of 3 weddings a day in the mix of strangers. At La Luna I felt the entire world stopped for us on our day!

When it comes to La Estrella Restaurant I have to say that if you let yourself splurge and allow the chef free hands you will not be disappointed. Our wedding dinner was absolutely delicious and the fresh catch and fish dishes I had for lunch one day as well. Chef Leonardo is very detail oriented and accommodating, but at a high price! It was way too expensive for us to eat all our meals at the restaurant during our stay. On our first day we asked for 10 pastas in butter for the children and were charged $17 per pasta!!! Granted it was fresh pasta but it really would have been better to invest in some Barilla spaghetti and boil up for the kids who didn't even like the fresh pasta and many parents would have been happier. Unfortunately for the restaurant all our guests walked next-door to Ziggy's for most meals after that. It is very apparent that the restaurant is run separately from the hotel and it is a pity in our opinion. I know Tulum proud themselves on their fine cuisine but it would do the hotel a favor to get them to lower their prices for at least hotel guests and offer some simpler items on at least the lunch menu. Being the hotel has decided to be child friendly the restaurant really should accommodate that too and always have kids item at kids prices available.

A few more recommendations to La Luna would be to get more beach chairs on the beach (our guests could never all fit), work out better collaborations between restaurant and hotel and I would also add the wedding planning portion to their own services (it would be such a valuable detail to not have to ice referred to a third party planner which in my case did not work at all - I felt I did everything myself or by help of Idoya).

La Luna is very quiet and tranquil so if you’re looking for a happening resort and hope to meet people where you live this is not the spot - unless you bring your own friends and make it a party of course which we did! But you will leave here reseted, relaxed and with memories and pictures more stunning than anything before.

Thank you to all the terrific staff, both with the hotel and the restaurant!
We will forever carry a piece of Cabanas La Luna with us!

We had so much fun last year, that we brought more people this year. The accommodations were just as rustic and comfortably exotic as expected. But the beach is so lovely not much time was spent there. We lounged on the beach under umbrellas where attentive servers ensured our comfort. When not on the beach we visited the many local attractions arranged by the concierge.

Room tip: This year it was Marco Polo. Last year, it was Robinson Caruso. Both are clean and comfortable.

Cabanas La Luna made our first trip to Tulum absolutely perfect! The staff are so friendly and responsive - everything was exactly as promised. They arranged wonderful airport transfers as well. The whole family loved our Cabana - it was so clean and comfortable. Perfect beach as well. We will definitely come back here next time we travel to Tulum! Thank you!

My husband and our 6 month old baby spent 4 nights in Marrakech in February 2017. Beautiful, tidy room, awesome deck overlooking the beach. It was a perfect choice for us - small hotel, nice people, and the luxury a bar/restaurant so we could get breakfast and snacks on the beach. Everyone was super accommodating to us and our baby, from the portable crib they provided for the room to the box of beach toys up front. We really loved that we could have an authentic Tulum experience while traveling with our little one without having to stay at a big resort.

My husband & I had our wedding at Cabanas La Luna early March & it was the best decision we could have made!!!

First, we had our family and friends rent out all of the cabanas. Figuring out room arrangements seemed a little daunting at first, but with the help of Idoya & a little planning we were easily able to fill each room! Having all of our family and friends at one place for 4 full days was magical!!! Everyone would come to the restaurant for breakfast every morning, relaxed & mingling with all the other guests.. Great way to make sure you spend time with everyone before the hectic days begin.
All of our guests thoroughly enjoyed their stay. The rooms were spacious, the staff was courteous and the views were breathtaking. Most of our guests are talking about their next visit to Cabanas La Luna!

Second, the wedding planning. Idoya was super helpful, responsive & kind throughout the entire process!!!! She always answered every question I had (& there were a lot), helped in anyway she could & always tried to make things easier for us. Planning a destination wedding can be a little stressful, but Idoya always made us feel at ease with her quick & thorough responses! During our stay she was at the hotel every day to make sure everything ran smoothly & to ensure our guests were taken care of.

Third, the wedding! Our wedding day ran smoothly with the help of the restaurant staff, hotel staff & our wedding planner. Cabanas La Luna has various places to have your ceremony, dinner & reception. We chose a beach front ceremony, cocktail hour on the restaurant terrace and dinner/dancing on the beach terrace (THEN afterparty at the Zanzibar Villa!). It was amazing for our 50 guests & flowed perfectly throughout the night. The food was wonderful, the service during dinner was great & the bartender kept the drinks coming!

10/10 experience having Cabanas La Luna be the central location for our wedding weekend. We will definitely be back!! Maybe even next year for our one year anniversary! :)

Room tip: Captian Dales is beautiful with a huge deck, Coconut Cove has the best view out of all the rooms, Zanzibar is perfect for a large group!!
