It is a nice small hotel near the city main street but far from the beach. The rooms are medium size and very clean with good airconditioning.
But we did not like at all the concept of the room. The bathroom sink is in the middle of the room in front of the bads. The bathroom door (shower and toilet) is also in front of the bads.
They serve nice breakfast but only Mexican food. No other choice.
The staff we very polite but they speak only spanish. Not a word in English.
The owner and the manager were virtual. We never saw any of them in 7 days. We also had an disagreement with them concerning the payment. Their cancelation rules are very strict. Think well before you commit yourself. I feel also that they are overpriced.

Hello Itzhak!

We thank you very much for your feedback, it is very much appreciated.

We think this review doesn't really warrant 2 stars, as it really does praise the hotel and staff. Pretty much everything you mentioned was a positive, with the exception of a personal preference when it comes to the hotel room's layout. Our value is unheard of in this town: keep in mind Tulum is a very expensive place. This is backed up by us constantly winning (in 10 years+ of operating) the TA "Best Bargain" award.

Our cancellation policy was mentioned numerous times to you, so not quite sure why you complained about it mid-way through your trip, hoping to get comped.

As far as the manager being virtual, at the moment, we think this works well. We provide guests with everything they need to get by while in Tulum. No other hotel to my knowledge provides a high end custom map, explaining the layout of Tulum, filled to the brim with knowledge.

We thrive to improve and evolve each day. Feedback like yours is key to our improvement and we thank you for it.

Please come back one day and give us another chance to satisfy.

Thanks,
Tom

Awesome place to stay. Close to town. Clean and friendly staff. Would stay again. Toms handy map and recommendations were super handy!! Breakfast was yum and very fresh tasting. Minimal noise at night and no bugs in the room.

We stayed here for four nights in a standard double. The hotel is well kept and maintained and while the room and bathroom looked a bit more dated than the photos, there was no real issue with either. Having the kitchenette was a real plus and the mini fridge was ice cold. Shower water pressure was pretty weak throughout our stay but I understand that's more of a Tulum-wide issue and water temperature wasn't ever a problem. Did not meet Tom, but communication was very easy with him via WhatsApp and he was able to book a tour for us to Chichen Itza and Valladolid on fairly short notice. The breakfasts were very good, freshly prepared, and very Mexican with a healthy amount of chile (chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, etc.), but I do think they would benefit from the inclusion of some fresh fruit or just eggs for those visitors who a) aren't quite so local in their breakfast tastes or b) just want something lighter for breakfast (all the dishes were pretty hearty). Just a suggestion as it was definitely a plus to have breakfast included. Coffee, tea, and fresh organge juice were available with breakfast as well. Really enjoyed Tom's included guide to the different area restaurants, bars, and beach clubs. We consulted it religiously and there were some great finds (Mezzanine--awesome Thai, Burrito Amor, and Villa Las Estrellas Beach Club). As I said, the hotel is nice and well maintained, and fairly well situated in the pueblo of Tulum, walking distance to a number of restaurants, shops, and such. That said, the pueblo itself is pretty meh and we know now that staying beachside would have been way better for us, even with the huge algae bloom/seaweed problem (it was everywhere). That's not a reflection on Posada Luna del Sur per se, just a matter of preference. We found ourselves spending most of our time beachside so it just would have made more sense and the constant back and forth in taxi (although plentiful, professional, and fairly affordable) got a bit tiresome. However, for those considering a stay in the pueblo, I'd have no hesitation in recommending Posada Luna del Sur. And for the price, it's a solid value.

We are beyond happy you enjoyed your stay with us and as well enjoyed Tulum as a whole!

Please note that beach hotels range from $250 USD all the way up to $2000 per night for limited amenities (depending on the hotel no electricity or minimal hours, as Tulum beach is off the grid, no AC, fruit for breakfast, etc); we belive our rate at $70 USD during low season, including a hot a la carte breakfast is untouchable, for a quality room. $70 USD wont find you much around the world, but we offer unbeatable value :)

Take the 5 minute cab and save money, stay with us! :)

Once again thank you for choosing us and please come back and visit us again-- all returning guests receive a 20% discount, for their loyalty! :)

I decided that I do not want to stay at the beachfront due to totally overpriced accommodations and massive crowds when I arrived in Tulum.

This small hotel is supernice, clean rooms, a little basic but totally fits my needs.

Communication was excellent and i was able to prolong my stay via quick and easy Whatsapp chats with the owner Tom.

Thanks for the stay!

Posada Luna del Sur had very clean rooms with strong AC, private bathrooms and small balcony. Perfect for exploring Tulum town.

Mexican breakfasts were truly delicious (and healthy) and Tom was very responsive and helpful with all queries, including booking onto an eco tour of the Sian Kaan nature reserve/lagoon/mangroves, which was incredible.

Only downsides are no pool or free bike hire, but there is a cheap bike hire place extremely close to the hotel and it's only a 15 min pleasant bike ride to the beach.

Would recommend to friends!

Hello Anna!

Thanks for your review and feedback, it is very much appreciated!

We used to have bike rental, but have since stopped it, since bikes were getting damaged and it was just not possible from a business point of view. As you mentioned, right across the street (about 100 meters) from the hotel there is a bike rental place, so it works out well :)
