“Fab-u-lous!”

We have rented houses all over the world (to include two other rentals in Tulum) and I have to say Casa Carolina was one of our favorites. We rented the house with two families (with children) and two singles for Thanksgiving weekend. I love Tulum in general-- feels like the bohemia beach town I have been looking for all of my life-- but the location of Casa Carolina enhanced our stay even more. Its placement is fantastic.... walk out of the house onto the beach, walk to some of the best restaurants in Tulum, stroll on the beaches, swim in the ocean. It is on the quieter end of the beach (south end of beach road) so you have some privacy. There is a hotel next door but it is a higher end boutique hotel with very discreet guests. Pool was an added amenity but was a bit cold and roof deck would have been a great place to host a small event... even thought we didn't use it. There was sufficient space for all to have privacy if needed. The house was very well-appointed and more than met all of our needs even when cooking for Thanksgiving (they need to add a gas grill but the owners said they are working on that and the employees quickly procured a charcoal grill which adequately met our needs .) Chic architecture but remaining true to the Tulum atmosphere of simplistic outdoor integrated living. The owners have very good taste and the house was well-decorated with some nice touches (large candles in the bedrooms. good mattresses, and nice linens). It seemed like they made decisions in decorating and designing the house that were personal in nature and met what they would want when staying there as opposed to being based on purely financial prudence-- as is common in many other rentals. The sound system was an added bonus and much to my chagrin, but to the joy of the men traveling with us, the cable TV worked well for Thanksgiving football and the internet worked better than most places in Tulum. Many locations in Tulum you will experience power outages and rely on generator back-up power. Casa Carolina has solar generated energy and if we ended up on back-up power none of us were aware-- we were careful with energy use, however, and all of our children are well trained to turn off un-needed devices (lights, fans, etc.). Also at other Tulum locations on the beach road the houses/hotels often have brackish water for showers.. not at Casa Carolina. The showers were fresh (or at least mostly fresh) water. The owner was easy to work with and demonstrated exceptionally integrity-- when our initial stay was cancelled because the property was not completed as expected, he honored our introductory rate a year later on a holiday weekend (at a significant financial loss to him). Not many rental property owners would have done this-- he did this not because it was in the contract but just because he promised us he would. House employees were responsive to problems and fixed any issue quickly and with no drama. We would definitely stay here again and have listed it as a recommended location when visiting Mexico at our place of employment (a place of well-traveled very discreet individual). Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Liked best: location, personal touches, and ease of working with owner
Liked least: lack of gas grill and be careful with young children on the bedroom balconies (does not meet US safety standard-- but you are in Mexico not the the US)

“ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!”
Reviewed 15 October 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Everything about Casa Carolina makes the entire Tulum experience even better. The house is beautiful and the scenery is breathtaking. The staff took care of my groups every need and the food they prepared was delicious. The location is perfect and in walking distance to all the joys and excitements of the town. I will definitely be planning another stay at Casa Carolina soon!

“Uh-mazing!”

First time in a rental house as opposed to a resort so we were a bit skeptical as far as if we would like it or not. Everything about this place was incredible. From the location, the house itself, the staff (Erick and Paola), the food...I could go on forever. The biggest downside would be that the snorkeling is fairly nonexistent unless you have access to a kayak to get you to the reef. Otherwise there are charters close by to take you out for as little as $40 US. The road to the house is lined with shops and restaurants within walking distance or a short cab ride. The grocery store is a relatively short cab ride away and was easily navigated even with our limited Spanish. It's off the beaten path but was just what we were looking for!
