The restaurant has been around for ages. It started as a small beach restaurant that specialized in seafood and was very popular with locals. After Hurricane Wilma destroyed much of the coastline they relocated to the jungle, right next to the federal highway right in front of the entrance to Soliman Bay.

The location is perfect if you are traveling north or south along the highway, or just want a change from the lunch or dinner offerings in Tulum, Soliman, Akumal, Puerto Aventuras or any of the hotels in the southern Riviera Maya.

The family is from this region and all menu items celebrate local culinary traditions. Although they are famous for their seafood (the ceviche starters are amazing) the Yucatecan chicken is definitely one of our favorites.

The great staff, the beautiful jungle setting and their commitment to farm-to-table all make for a wonderful experience. Be sure to take cash along just in case the credit card machines aren’t working.

Unfortunately we were not aware that the restaurant shuts at 9pm and we arrived at 8.20. We didn’t realise until we went in that not one other diner was there (there were cars outside but I think they must be staff)
It would have been preferable if they had said they were closing or we had made the decision to go elsewhere however we stayed. This was a mistake as obviously there was zero ambiance and we felt we were inconveniencing the staff. The food was reasonable but we felt really pressured to leave. A waiter proceeded to put every chair on top of the tables apart from the one we were sitting at! How rude is that - sending us a real message - surely it would only take a minute to do this after we left. We ate as quickly as we could - advice - go at lunchtime!

I have been eating several times per year at Oscar y Lalo Restuarant since 1998. Through the years we have always received excellent service and quality food at a fair price. Virginia has excelled at capturing and expanding on the area ambiance in her current location. The menu offers a great selection of dishes representative of the area cuisine paired with staples so there is something for everyone. Service is always top notch along with presentation and value. I hope to be fortunate enough to patronize Oscar y Lalos for many more years. I would like to add, Virginias sparkling personality and entrepreneurial abilities to offer tours so that visitors understand the flora, fauna and fragile eco-system of the area, enhances and promotes responsible tourism in the area.

We ate here as part of our Riviera Adventours trip. The food and ambiance were awesome. The Stuffed Chili and passionfruit margarita were amazing. We were stuffed by the time the delicious desserts arrived. We will go back next visit to this area.
