“We found a slice of paradise in the heart of the Yucatan.”

Our family just returned from Hacienda Petac, twelve of us ranging from twenty-one months to seventy three years. We have been going together a week each year for fourteen years and we all agree that this vacation was exceptional.
The Hacienda has been restored to a serene oasis. At each turn there is something that stirs your senses: water, flowers, old arches, relics from the working days, birds calling, and the wonderful aroma from the kitchen. The rooms are very private, comfortable and spacious with everything one would find in a luxury hotel. All this comfort and physical beauty is enhanced by a staff and service that is unsurpassed. Quietly your bed is made with flowers, the napkins are a work of art, your thirst is quenched and delicious meals are served in many locations. With Colleen at the helm, the locals add a touch of warmth and caring.
Our grandsons played soccer with the town boys, we visited the Myan ruins, saw the native flamingos, and toured Merida with a very knowledgable guide provided by the Hacienda. When we stayed at the Hacienda we used the spa services and equipment, played croquet, pool, ping-pong, swam, and found a little time to read in a native hammock.
It was an experience of a lifetime for all generations.

“Perfection in paradise”

Stayed at Hacienda Petac as part of a group of 7 women. Even before we even arrived it was obvious we going to be spoiled rotten--questions were answered almost before they were asked. We arrived after dark and were warmly greeted by Colleen (who is so much more than a manager--greeter, tour arranger, interpreter, cooking partner, facilitator) and stafff with cool glasses of jamaica and a tour of our rooms. Each room has a different feel and all are huge, gorgeous and very very comfortable. There is AC in each room but it wasn't needed. The thick stone walls, ceiling fans and windows control the heat & humidity of the Yucatan well. The grounds are lush and beautiful and there are numerous shady verandas, porches, terraces and shady glens to relax with a book. Flowers abound. The different floral decorations on the tables and advanced napkin origami at each meal is merely a delightful prelude to the wonderful meals. The food is authentic, beautifully plated and plentiful. While the "stuff" at Hacienda Petac is wonderful, the true gem is the staff. The "kitchen angels" work tirelessly to make sure you are never without a cool drink or snack or inventive meal. And after the first morning they'll remember how you like your morning coffee and it will arrive just the way you want it. During the cooking classes they were instructive and fun, and didn't laugh at our lousy tortilla making skills. The rooms are spotlessly clean, laundry is whisked away every morning and returned clean, folded and put away by noon. Garderners work constantly trimming, cleaning, tidying. A multiitude of candles/lanterns are lit along the many pathways every evening and then removed by dawn. I have never stayed in a place were there was nothing I would change--until now. This is a beautiful spot with amazing staff---they've got it right, and I hope to return. And, Dona Fina, when I return my tortillas will no longer be in the shape of California; you taught me well! Thanks to everyone at Hacienda Petac for a week in paradise.

I just returned from a girl's trip to Hacienda Petac. It was one of the best trips I have ever taken. The Hacienda is beautifully restored with exquisite attention to detail. I felt as if I had stepped back in time. My room was very private with a huge bathroom. The staff was available to attend to our every need without being intrusive. Colleen, the property manager, is awesome and arranged a private tour to the Mayan ruins at Uxmal. She also arranged for yoga and spa treatments at the property. Each meal was special from the tables set with exotic flowers to the fabulous regional cuisine! I highly recommend Hacienda Petac for families, groups of friends, anyone wanting to REALLY get away. The level of service was extraordinary. I plan to visit again soon!!!

“DON'T GO...UNLESS>>>>”

Don't go...unless>>>You want to unwind, eat delicious food, some of which is grown on site, have your needs attended to in a gracious manner, relax by a fresh water pool, have extremely clean rooms & other facilities, endure exotic spa massages, kick back in the jacuzzi, enjoy candlelight on the grounds, hike trails in the surrounding area, which has reverted to native plants of all sorts, take tours to see flamingos, cenotes, ancient pyramids & architecture, bargain (or not) in the Merida market places, enjoy a candlelit serenade by excellent guitarists.....basically...indulge yourself...yeah, don't go....you'll be tempted to go back....soon.
Ours was a cooking vacation, with other strangers, which soon became friends...swayed by the camaraderie of the shared experience.
However, if you prefer to avoid others (you loner, you)..the grounds are extensive, and there are many secluded nooks, in which you can be one with your inner self...and all of the flora and fauna.
There is a fine large game room, but didn't use it...at all...too fantastic out of doors, and the weather was perfect.
Oh, and did I mention the great food? Yes....

The area and hacienda abounds with history, (if you're one of those--I am)....and the staff is proud to relate the tales.

The people that took care of us were some of the nicest people you might ever meet....
(unlike some places, where they're pushy, snooty, gushy (I intensely dislike those), angry, sullen..well, you get the picture....they were the antithesis of those types)

As for those that might be apprehensive about traveling in Mexico, before we left, to assuage my sweet heart's concerns, I did an extensive search, and found that that area of the Yucatan is safer than most places in the world...and even, our home town....hard to imagine, I was surprised, actually.

We traveled a couple of days early, to spend time in Merida, and if you enjoy local customs, you might consider it...On Sunday evenings, there's traditional dancing in the town square. *Find the Gordita place by the square, you won't regret it.

Here's their blog site (covers several years), which features history and a few recipes.

Hmm, I'm ordinarily not so effusive...but....writing this has brought back memories....and...the place deserves it

Go, Enjoy.

“Most beautiful of stays in Mexico”

I joined my sister and her friends who had visited Petac in the past, and the Hacienda, the manager and staff, accommodations, meals and services very quickly out did her descriptions. The photos capture some of the beauty, but the sounds of birds, the air, and ease of slipping into a time of gracious service and the mix of modern convenience and timeless elegance is hard to capture. I cannot speak to their cooking classes, but will want to return for them, or for a week of leisure.
