This is a good hotel but you have to know what to expect. It essentially strives for a fiesta-type atmosphere that is popular with Mexican families. Loud music going til fairly late in the night and the hotel does not cater so much to foreign tourists. If that sounds good to you, this is your place.
Great ocean views from the room and a pretty nice beachfront, though it does get a bit narrow during high tide. Conveniently located near the far end of the Golden Zone, so you’re near a lot of stuff but not quite right in the middle of it. Did not eat or drink much here but it seemed decent enough.
Towel situation is a little annoying as you have to keep a second card with you to get a beach towel. Resort is nice because it’s new, but it is a little sparse and often short on charm. Much of this is widely done to minimize dirt, mildew, etc, which is great, but it could be a little warmer. Staff seemed somewhat disinterested outside of the front desk — not exactly rude but not very attentive either.
Pools are nice although, again, a little sparse. Big family pool then a slightly smaller pool for adults. Kids would like it here well enough.
They had a pretty cool fire show on Friday or Saturday night. That one is worth catching if you can.
I don’t think you could do much better unless maybe if you head a little further north up the beach, like around playa Cerritos. But that did not seem nearly as convenient, although much quieter.
