Review of Gaviana Resort
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 30 Jul 2019via mobile
We booked a weekend stay at the Ramada resort in Mazatlán. Upon arrival we found out that the resort was taken over by Gaviana. The reception area was appropriately staffed and we checked in without incident. Upon arrival in our room....the room was out dated and the bed although soft it lacked support. I woke up with a sore back each morning. The lighting was less than desirable. The bathroom was small.
There are local bands that play on the beach until the wee hours of the morning. I thought they were playing in the next room. The beach and pool ares are nice and the wait staff will keep the drinks coming if you want. We only had lunch there. The portions were good and the tuna crèche was delicious. Over all a 3 out of 5 stars. The bedding needs to be replaced and the noise was too much for us.

Location location a great beach front hotel, lots to do on the beach and in the water. Nice rooms and a great spot in the golden zone, close to everything. If you want to stay off the beach the pool is great!

Room tip: I get a pool view, but that’s my preference.

We booked this hotel looking forward to a ten day beach front rest. This was anything but!!
Joes “oyster bar” ‘HA!,!’ a night club with no walls right underneath the hotel with no walls, we moved rooms three times and still no sleep for ten days. This went on until 3/4am EVERY NIGHT!!
Local music from the many bars across the street blared from the other side of the hotel so didn’t matter where your room was there was just NOISE NOISE NOISE !!!
Beachfront tranquility HAHAHAHA! I think the hotel could do a better job of protecting its guests from the relentless preying of beach vendors (some of which didn’t look exactly sober and were definitely dodgy) selling sunglasses, hats, bracelets, day trips, chewing gum, cigars, basically stuff we neither wanted or needed Not to mention the battle of the bands and the relentless hour after hour of bands with trombones, trumpets, drums playing the same songs at a blaring and deafening decibel drowning out the sound of the waves.
The cleanliness of the hotel left a great deal to be desired. Countless times we noticed empty beer bottles and cans left for long periods. These would be disguarded at the pool, in the flower beds, in the hallways room service dishes left outside generally didn’t get removed for over a day.
Elevators were somewhat worriesome my husband got stuck in one and it didn’t come as a suprise as they only worked occasionally.
If you value your sleep and peace DO NOT go to this hotel

This is an older property. I believe it was built in 1981. Don't let this stop you from staying here. It is meticulously maintained with work being done daily to keep everything fresh and in good shape.

The staff is super friendly and eager to take care of even the slightest problem. Our room was large with two bathrooms and a separate seating area. Mary (our maid) kept the room immaculate every day. The only downside to the room was the television programming was all in Spanish, with only two English speaking channels, but you don't go on vacation to watch television, so this really was not an issue.

The restaurant had great service and good food at very reasonable prices. The portions are generous, almost more than I could eat! They also have a poolside bar offering snacks and beverages delivered to your lounge chair by friendly staff. The prices are among the lowest I've seen from any of the places I've stayed on prior vacations.

I was impressed with how clean the beach was. It is raked on a daily basis and we never had an issue with trash or littler during the week we stayed here. We spent a lot of time on the beach, enjoying the view and the people watching.

If you enjoy music and the nightclub scene, this hotel has a nightclub attached. They have live bands on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. For us, this was the only downside to our stay. Our room was close to the nightclub and due to the loud volume of the band we were unable to sleep. We called down to the desk to ask if they could get the volume lowered, but they were unable to help. The band plays until 3:30 AM on Friday and Saturday and until 2:00 AM on Sunday. If we stay here again, we will be sure to specify a room on the other side of the hotel, well away from the nightclub.

Room tip: Ask for a room on the opposite side from the nightclub....unless you enjoy loud music

First the good news, this is an older property. I believe it was built in 1981. Don't let that dissuade you from staying here. Everything I saw was meticulously maintained, with work being done all the time to keep everything looking fresh. Our room was very clean and Mary our maid kept it that way. The staff is always friendly and eager to help with even the slightest problem. Obviously, the beach and the view were incredible. I was impressed with how clean the beach was kept, being raked on a daily basis. The food at the restaurant was well prepared and very inexpensive. The portions are generous, almost more than I could eat. There is a poolside bar, again with incredibly low prices and a very friendly staff to bring things to your lounge chair.

Now for the only negative thing about this hotel. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights during our stay, the attached nightclub had a band that played so loud that sleep was impossible. They didn't stop until 3:30 in the morning and calls to the front desk asking them to lower the volume did not help. Our room was on the side of the hotel directly facing the club, so I think if you got a room on the other side of the hotel it might not be too bad. We would stay here again, but would be sure to specify a room away from the nightclub.

Room tip: Unless you enjoy loud music late at night, ask for a room away from the nightclub
