A Very Good Inexpensive Getaway

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 May 2019
We were at the Don Pelayo Pacific Beach March 8 - 15 / 2019. My wife and I were looking for a last minute getaway and we have always liked Mazatlan. The deal to the Don Pelayo was cheap and we liked the location so we booked with Sunwing. The check in experience was pretty good in relation to Mexican check ins. The girl at the front desk spoke good english and was pleasant and helpful. Our room was a junior suite facing the Malecon. The rooms are older but ours was very clean and had a small fridge, hot plate and a microwave. The beds were very comfortable and clean. We only ate one meal there and it was okay, service wasn't great but it was busy. The location is pretty good, close to the beach and within walking distance of lots of places to eat and get groceries. The pool area is okay for kids but we preferred going across the street to the beach which was virtually empty!
Overall for the price we were more than happy with our experience and would definitley go back. Take ear plugs though if you are in a room facing the street as it can be quite noisy, especially on the weekends.
Date of stay: March 2019
Room Tip: Rooms facing the Malecon have a great view but they are noisy

Don pelayo was an excellent hotel. Kinda far from the gold zone but beautiful sun sets, close to the malecon. Not many spoke English at the resort but it is Mexico. Those that did speak English were very helpful. U can exchange money ar the front counter. The restaurant was awesome to get up and go for coffee. The rooms were clean comfortable beds, nice pillows.

The receptionists named jesus was very rude and had a very bad attitude. It seems that he doesn't like his job. He told me that he used to to live in USA and the bank I'm using it wasn't the best that his was banking with bank of America plus he made some other negative comments by telling me that everything he had in USA was the best than mine. Like my bank account even the type cell phone company I'm using. He compared himself to myself and thats not a good customer service. I really felt sad about this because my friend heard him said that to me. I hope never come back to stay in Don Pelayo Hotel ever again.

I would not recommend this hotel. No great customer service plenty of people who work here but nobody ever helps you. Overpriced for a Motel6 version of a room... This being said Motel 6 is okay I know what to expect... this place is something else!

We booked this hotel as a Sunwing package air/hotel. It's a great hotel if you just want a comfy bed, fridge in the suite rooms, and a hot shower. Wifi is fast and reliable. Unfortunately upon check in we were greeted with hammer drills going 10 hours a day demolishing half the lobby area. Construction also on the 11th floor. We didn't use the restaurant or pool area because of the noise. Also note this hotel does not have chairs/amenities on the beach though it is beachfront. Hotel front desk tries to charge extra for dishes/pots in the kitchenettes even though it's included in Sunwing packages. I think this hotel will be okay once the construction is finished for what it is. We ended up moving out because they blocked access to the stairs /only fire exit due to construction. This did not affect the other building though who still had stair/elevator access. I would recommend this hotel once the construction is over as it is in a great location for walking the malecon, near grocery stores and restaurants and has the best views ever!
