Great views, nice rooms, but ruined by rude service

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 30 May 2019
Rooms and views were very nice for the price point! And some staff were nice as well... BUT most staff were cold and a couple (including a manager) were overtly rude. We were also speaking spanish so there's no communication issue! Just rude... the top dog must be breathing down these employees' necks.
The breakfast room is depressing... no natural light, playing some kenny g elevator music... Breakfast itself isn't bad (though the coffee is terrible) but the area makes you want to run out. We asked if we could take breakfast back to our room or outside and that was met with a wholehearted NO. We joked that the management must be military inspired...
And it's true the patio doors don't lock unless you ask them specifically for a key...
Would be a nice hotel if it was kinder to guests!

This is the second time I stay in Ocean View, the staff is awesome and the facilities are in really good shape.

The view is awesome from our room is marvelous. It’s placed in the heart of Mazatlán, you can reach most of the point walking.

We stayed here for two weeks. The entire staff here from the bell hop to the maids to the life guard to the entertainment by the pool this entire staff is so friendly and nice. Rooms were kept very clean by a wonderful staff. Jesus Gomez and Alberto and the rest of the staff kept the entertainment going by the pool. Water Arobics, bingo, volley ball , the music kept a very lively atmosphere. Would recommend this place. The food was awesome and they had nightly entertainment by the pool. It was a very enjoyable stay.

What could be a nice beach hotel in Mazatlan, Mexico, is demoted to a Poor rating due to lack of security. Our two rooms had patio doors which did not lock at all! Each of our rooms on different floors had the same serious problem.

I am not interested in meeting the people in the room next door (which shares a patio area) during a burglary or worse! How dare a referral group even list this hotel as an option?

There is great front door security but the bad guys rarely come through the hotel front entrance. Kudos to the bell hops who even helped us cart groceries & large shopping bags to our rooms. The Front Desk was friendly & even tried to help me figure out my personal cell phone when it wasn’t working.

The waiters in the hotel restaurant were absolutely fabulous, friendly, observant & quick with refills of coffee & food. They, too, assisted me in trying to make a local phone call.

Morning breakfast was very good when we went early in the day but not as tasty in the last hour of the buffet. A variety of egg dishes & omelettes were available with good fresh fruit, juices & bakery items.
Great idea to have free breakfast.

I recommend the ocean view rooms as the “city view” rooms could have you looking at the air conditioner system on an unsecured patio. It is worth the few dollars more for a much nicer view of the outdoor pool & ocean.

This is my second visit to this hotel with stays of more than a few days each time. I won’t return unless security issues are addressed.

We just got from 12 days in Mexico, staying at Ocean View Beach Hotel, right in the heart of Mazatlan. The Hotel ticked all the boxes for us ... location - right on the beach and right in the middle of all the fun along the strip ... we walked a lot along the beach as well as along the roadside - and when we were sick of walking we'd hail a pulmonia (taxi).

The staff at Ocean View were excellent - everyone ... Jose is the food and beverage manager, and Gilberto ... they made our breakfasts so enjoyable (breakfast was included in our stay). Jose loves music of all kinds and his morning music selection was always great. The breakfast buffet was top notch - Gilberto always remembered how we liked our coffee (with real milk). The selection of food catered for everyone - Mexicans like savory food for breaky - swordfish (marlin) was often on the menu.

I enjoyed conversations with Eliseo the waiter for the pool area ... he helped me with spanish and answered any curiosity questions I had. I give him a 10 out of 10!

All the reception and doorman staff were excellent - Gabriela especially.

One day there was a pelican out the front near the road, in need of some help or he'd get hit by a car ... I told the staff inside and they did their best to find someone to help it after lending me a towel and box to catch it. I thought that was pretty special. I hope he is doing well now.

The view from our fifth floor room was amazing - we could see two islands from the balcony. The ocean side is on the west so we saw beautiful sunsets and got to enjoy sleeping in without morning sun blaizing in. The room was very newly fitted out and immaculate - only problem was the balcony door latch wasn't working properly but they did their best to fix it.

We felt extremely safe - they have a 24 hour doorman and there is a large police presence in Mazatlan (police of the good kind). There wasn't a time when we didn't feel relaxed.

Ocean View Hotel is right in the heart of the tourist strip and not far from old Mazatlan - there was such a great vibe all day and all night. Music (big brass bands with Tuba, trumpets, the lot) would busk up and down the beach with waves lapping at their feet ... so much going on right on the beach out the front of the hotel - parasailing, jetskis, boats to the island, hawkers selling everything from sunglasses, to hats, to full dress outfits as well as jewelry, time share, fruit cups, drinks, and the cutest marionette puppets ... they weren't pushy but there was a lot constantly showing their wares ... but only when you were on the beach - but you could stay by the hotel pool and that was out of bounds for the sellers.

Our holiday offered everything we wanted - a change of culture, music, entertainment, FOOD FOOD FOOD, unbelievable sunsets, and forced you to relax.

Mexicans are friendly, relaxed and just let you do your own thing - anything goes and no-one makes judgement on you.

HAD THE BEST TIME!

Room tip: We were on the fifth floor which was great - I think all rooms have an ocean view

Beautiful view from our hotel room. Room was very clean and comfortable. They said it was a suite but that just meant two double beds in a large room. The first room they took us to had water all over the floor. They quickly took us to another room. There was no hot water in the shower. When we called down they said there was no one to fix it. Cold shower that night. The next day there was still no hot water. I asked the manager if they would reduce our rate. They would not. They said we could have a discount on a future stay. We told them we would not be back in Mazatlan as we were there only one night before meeting a cruise ship. They refused to do anything for the inconvenience.
