A Royal welcome...

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 Apr 2024
Ok, if your priorities in a vacation are pristine new accomodation with gadgets and new feel residency, this is definitely not the place for you. There are other issues that will talk about in a minute..

What really shines for Royal Villa are: it's safety, location, staff, amenities and cleanliness with comfort..

I stayed a week ish ...
In April 2024, booking a junior suite...ok, technically it had a sea view if you searched hard - but benefits for that were we were never close to the big beach banda, nor the busy main road, so noise wasn't a problem.
The room had all the mod cons and Aircon, TV and kitchenette worked very well.
Bathroom big and shower was spacious.
WiFi was strong and consistent in the studio room but dropped out on balcony..

LOCATION :
Literally a few steps onto beach in El Dorado or Golden Zone, spacious pool although at busy times I struggled to get a sunbed.
The building is established and relatively open, so when the wind blows it moves around lamp shades etc but thick walls and mighty pillars will see this building safe for years to come albeit it might not exactly be to your decor liking.

STAFF:
All engaging and hospitable...this is where RV excels, and brings out it's charm.
Big shout out to Marcos, a loyal employee.
And , Artherudo.
Not to mention amigo with the big fishing book!? Hahaha! Brilliant!
The two guys making cocktails and running bar were lovely as were all the waiters, also one note on my booking: Comms with the place were excellent before I even got there, they catered for my needs .

AMENITIES:
Include an on site spa, small shop to buy necessities, restaurant, full bar and breakfast buffet, snack bar. Outside pool and bubble jacuzzi all with waiter service.... you're not going to get knock down prices but decent quality - try the frappacino, they're amazing!
But you're knocked back just as quickly by the cheap plastic cups cocktail are served in around the pool..

CLEANING:
Maid cleaned and replenished bathroom facilities every day, although not the complimentary water(?).
Beds so comfy slept well..
You can opt in or out of the cleaning as desired.

NOT HOTEL FAULT :
External noise especially party music all times of the night with extension of Mexican hospitality.

CAN IMPROVE:
Signs in bathroom reminding waste paper in basket, not down basin. (not every customer come from a country where this practice is normal).

Make a kettle available.

More charging points around bed area.

More consistent WiFi.

Better quality receptacles and cutlery around the pool area.

CONCLUSION:
This firmly places in 4* for me, as the staff elevate this up, notwithstanding the establishment knows how to organise an event!
I saw dancing classes, cookery classes, BBQ nights, live music, not including that fabulous eclipse special event breakfast and eating on the beach.
These guys and gals can hold, organise and execute special occasions....not quite a 5* quality, but what is important to me, they got very much got right.

Well done, and thank you for a lovely few days stay with you all.
Hope to return soon one day..

Room Tip: Get early around pool for sunbed at busy times. Bring some earplugs because of external noise at...

I stayed at Royal Villas in April 2024, for a few nights before, during, and after the eclipse. Due to the big event, they were completely booked; therefore I was very impressed that they still maintained a high level of service. From check-in to housekeeping to dining to pool staff, everyone was very responsive and did a fantastic job making us feel comfortable and very welcome. Nice ocean-front pool deck with lounge chairs to relax in and enjoy the beach.

We booked for a Beautiful Ocean Front View. Our first room on the second floor did not have that. Also the bathroom only had one lightbulb, no lights over the bed, in other words, if you wanted to see where you were going , you had to turn the main lights on. The safe was broken, hood fan over the hot plate did not work, nor the light in it. Drapes and doors to patio could not be opened without a struggle. Ended up draping the drapes over chair backs. Had to walk the length of the long shared patio to get to the railing at the end to see the beach and ocean. The lounge chairs and patio had bird droppings on them, and no one was ever cleaning it up. Remotes did not work and no WiFi. We did not unpack as we were not staying. We consulted with the front desk and they gave us a room on the seventh floor the following day. We moved ourselves as the bellhop never showed up as arranged! Second room, the view was much better and lights in the bathroom and over the bed, safe worked, amazing. The woodwork was not redone as it was in our first room, so cupboards, doors etc were old and hard to open. The showers could all do with anti slip floors or shower mats. Personally I found them and the floors rather slippery. Used a hand towel in the shower to stand on to keep from sliding around. Our maid was good except, it would be nice if the deck furniture was cleaned, the bird feathers and bird droppings cleaned up daily. All the shaving mirror's were covered in rust and the kitchen utensils, dishes, glasses, Ice Bucket etc and appliances could use updates. Why only one small bottle of water in each room? Pool was lovely, nice staff, most did not understand english and were not very speedy with the service as there likely were not enough of them to service the beach, pool and lounge areas. Usually three for all. Jimmy and the other towel guys were very nice. The top hinge of the bathroom door was pulled right out of the jamb, the toilet ran water non stop and diddn't flush on numerous occassions, the kitchen cabinet doors were loose on their hinges, the clock radio did not work at all. The wifi only worked occassionly. The smart Tv is brand new. But what good is a smart Tv in a hotel room, especially when there is no or poor wifi? No wifi at the pool area. No wifi in the lobby area. This is an older hotel and was probably considery a luxury hotel in its day. Not so now. Its adequate, just not worth the price. It is in an excellent location. Close to everything, and that is good! We complained about the deficencies on several occassions. Got the excuse that this was the first they heard about it. They always said they would fix what we complained about, but never did. We just excepted it and said "Oh well" and proceded to have a good time!

What was shown online is not what we arrived at. The resort was in disrepair. We had electrical problems, phone problems, internet problems, and cable problems. While there were a few exceptions, the service was generally poor. The pool area and beach area were meh at best.

Travelled to Royal Villas Nov. 28 to Dec. 12. And I must say it was a great vacation. All the staff from the Bellmen at the entrance to towel man at the pool were the best. Service was exceptional. Food was really good. Room was excellent. The only problem was that it got a little noisy a few days. It was our second time here and we will definitely be back.

The Hotel looked recently remodeled. Lobby area and ground floor look really nice. The place is very clean and they have friendly staff. Ray and Jaime were very friendly and helpful. Rooms are a good size the only complain is that are a bit noisy when others open faucets, it makes a loud noise. Beds are not the best but comfortable. Pool area and restrooms are clean. Pool area is small compared to the amount of guests using the facilities. Not enough beach front chairs or beds. This hotel is very inexpensive but very noisy if you are looking for a quiet place to enjoy the beach. Bands are always playing and are too loud. Sometimes they can go on for hours. That is the only reason I would not stay at this hotel again. We were hoping for a more relaxing stay. We were two adult people with no kids.

Room tip: Pool are is too crowded and beach front chairs are not enough. bands are too noisy and playing all the time on the beach area.
